Meet Aurora
Age: around 6 years old
S*x: spayed female
Weight: around 30 lbs
Behavior/Personality: Aurora is a friendly and happy girl! She’s super affectionate, loves treats, and is talkative. When in the play yards you can find her either playing with toys or right by your side waiting for pets! She has been downtown and walks well on a leash. She doesn’t always show well in her kennel, so give her a chance outside! She has a fair amount of energy for her age, but also loves to chill once she’s gotten her energy out. She’s done well in Downtown Sylva and loves hanging around.
Energy Level: medium energy level
Dogs: Aurora has done well with other dogs, but we always recommend meet and greets with others in the house!
Cats: unknown
Children: Aurora would probably do good with children, but she can be anxious when children run up to her, so older children may be best. We always recommend bringing kids into meet our dogs!

No Collar, No Clue: Help Your Dog Find Their Way Home

There is no leash law in Jackson County outside of Sylva city limits, and it is not uncommon for dogs to be allowed to wander. While many dogs know their way around the neighborhood, sometimes they venture a little too far or end up on a neighbor's porch.

One of the easiest ways to help your dog get home safely is to make sure they wear a collar with identification. Your phone number can be written directly on the collar with a permanent marker, or you can purchase a personalized engraved ID tag. The Jackson County Animal Shelter offers engraved tags for just $8, and personalized tags are also available at Tractor Supply, The Pet Stop, and Fish & More.

Animal shelters and rescue organizations receive calls every day from Good Samaritans who find wandering dogs. Many take these dogs home temporarily and try to locate their owners. A collar with a phone number can make the difference between a quick reunion and a lengthy search.

Please take a moment today to check your dog's collar. Does it have identification? Is your phone number current? A simple ID tag could be your dog's ticket home.

🐾Meet Suzee!🐾

Suzee is a 2 year old spayed female Coonhound mix. She came to us as a stray and weighs around 43lbs. Suzee is sweet and your typical hound. She loves sniffing, eating treats, and being vocal! She can be a little shy at first but has warmed up very quickly. One of her favorite things is head scratches, she will sit there with you forever as long as you scratch her head! Suzee is very calm and walks great on a leash. She likes to chew on toys and is very treat motivated. 🐾Meet Artimus!🐾

Artimus is a 2 year old neutered male Coonhound mix. He came to us as a stray and weighs 70lbs. He may be a big guy, but he’s very gentle and well behaved. He’s very sweet and loves attention once he gets to know you! He may be a little more shy with males than females, but warms up fairly quickly. He will sit for a treat and likes head scratches!
