Liddy has lived her whole (short) life at the shelter. She was part of a litter from a pregnant dog who gave birth shortly after arriving at the shelter last April. In the past year, Liddy has watched her siblings get adopted or sent to rescue, yet no one has shown interest in her, and we can’t understand why. As you can see from the photo below (which was taken when she snuck a hug while we were photographing other dogs), she loves with her whole heart. She is goofy and sweet, does well with other dogs, and loves to stick her feet in her water pail on a hot day. If you’re looking for a special companion, we recommend meeting Liddy. It’s hard for adult dogs to be noticed at the shelter, but she hasn’t given up yet. Update: Humphrey has gone to a foster to adopt! We have our fingers and paws crossed for him.

Sweet Humphrey is another one of our residents in need of a great home. He is shy, but loving. He insisted on being held for the entirety of Sunshine Saturday, and we were happy to oblige. If you have the patience for a sweet, small dog who needs time to feel safe in his new home, please visit Humphrey at the shelter. He is more confident around other dogs, so if you have a playmate for him, even better! However, we think with time and trust, he would feel right at home in an only-dog home. He would do great with an elderly person looking for a little lapdog. Please share to help him find a wonderful home.

Update: Jerry has gone to a foster to adopt! We’re still looking for someone great for his brother Jimbo.

You’re not seeing double, that’s just our two resident goofball brothers, Jerry and Jimbo! These oversized love muffins made a visit to Sunshine Saturday yesterday, where they were the delight of many visitors. Both Jerry and Jimbo are such good-natured, easygoing and affectionate dogs. They’re big boys at about 65-70 pounds each, so they’ll need adopters with a fenced in yard or someone willing to take them on long leashed walks. They’ve never met a stranger and have done well with other dogs. They’re not bonded and can be adopted separately, unless you’re in the market for double the love and goofiness! Let’s find these guys a home. 🐶

This sweet, happy boy is Fritz. Fritz arrived at the shelter about a week ago, and the loud environment is way too overwhelming for him. The poor little guy is pretty shut down, but he has been moved to a quieter space in an outdoor kennel. Fritz is about nine months old, and LOVES attention. He really comes out of his shell for a good belly rub or butt scratch! If you’ve been looking for a new companion, Fritz may be your guy. Come visit him at the shelter this week! His adoption fee is $120, and includes his neuter surgery, rabies vax and other shots.

Dear Tracy, Matt, Tradition Participants, and the Pursell family,

We would like to thank each and every one of you for the opportunity to showcase some of Sylacauga's adoptable, stray dogs during the annual Tradition Golf Tournament at the Pursell property.
That venue is absolutely gorgeous, and the privacy it affords for guests is wonderful. We loved seeing the dogs roll in lush, green lawns, pausing for a well-deserved belly-rub!
A special thank you to Tracy, Matt and the entire event coordination team for all you did to make our time with you memorable: from the dog walk, the mountain of in-kind donations, and craft paper cups filled with dog treats!
We appreciate the effort you expended on our behalf and your obvious commitment and compassion for literal underdogs! Thank you so much. We look forward to 2027!

Join us for dog walking at the shelter tomorrow from 11am-1pm, or at our booth at Sunshine Saturday in the park across from Bluebell. It looks like the rain will clear just in time, and we’re not worried because we’re bringing our own pocket full of sunshine: Little Humphrey, pictured below. We will have a couple of adoptable dogs there, so we hope you can join us at the shelter or the event!
