Spotlight 🔦 on another one of our wonderful, adoptable dogs. 🐶

💛Maisie💛 is a 8 mo old hound-mix and is such a good girl. 🥰 She is very dog-friendly, would likely be fine with a cat after slow intros, is well-behaved and non-destructive. House-broken and crate-trained, this petite (25 lbs) gal will go into her crate at night or share your bed if you let her. She’s agreeable to both!

Although she is a little shy when she meets new people, once she feels comfortable she will cuddle you to pieces. She has met teenagers and did great. She is not mouthy at all and just likes to lick and give kisses. “She will be the perfect family dog!”

She is incredibly smart, active, energetic and agile. She has great recall. She loves yogurt, peanut butter, carrots, celery, blueberries and strawberries - and the way she sticks her little tongue out is the cutest thing ever.

How can you resist adopting her?

Her full bio, along with the other adoptable dogs, can be found at tarashouse.org. A link to the application to adopt can be found in the comments.

Settling-In PUPDATE x2!

The bonded duo of Jiggy & Joe 💞 have settled into their new accommodations with no issues at all. They are happy and sweet little houseguests, and have been making frens with everyone they meet as well as the resident dogs through a fence; wagging their nubs in greeting.

They were in a little bit of rough shape on arrival, with some grooming issues that needed to be taken care of, but take a look at their amazing glow-ups that Unleashed by Aleasha gave them today! (THANK YOU!)

A bit on the rotund side (Joe especially), they will be safely reducing their BMI with regular exercise and proper nutrition to complete their transformations. 🥰🤩

Here’s Foster Mom’s notes from the first few days:

“Every time I check on them on the camera they are side by side 🥹

“We gave them a "sanitary shave" and wiped them down. They were both sooooo tolerant! Literally just perfect and so sweet. Didn't squirm or anything, even though their poor little butts were obviously so irritated and sore. They were just so patient about it. Such sweet little dudes.

“They are not impressed with the kibble 😂 They both acted excited when I poured it, sniffed their bowls, traded and sniffed each other's bowls, and didn't take a single bite lol 🍽️

“They did amazing overnight! 💤 Didn't make a peep, no accidents. Don't want to speak too soon but I'm betting they are potty trained.

“They have both been reverse sneezing and regular sneezing pretty frequently, and Joe in particular sounds very "stuffed up" (kind of like a flat faced dog trying to breathe). 🤧 Will monitor and take them to the vet next week for boosters and a check.

“They were so excited when I got their harnesses out and asked if they wanted to go for a walk 🥹 🦮🦮 They both really enjoyed it and would make great walking buddies. Joe got tired out quickly, but still loved it, hopefully with diet and exercise he will build up his stamina for longer walks. I think if it were up to Jiggy, we would have kept walking for a lot longer!”

These fellas have some rejuvenating to do, and they are in a great place to do it with very experienced fosters. When they are ready, we will open applications for them - they must be adopted together. 🐶🐶

We have taken in 5 new dogs in the past week, but don’t forget about our currently adoptable dogs! They are all wonderful, and each one different. Take a look at their bios on tarashouse.org.

Today we will spotlight Little Bird, because we can’t stop looking at her cute face and wondering when her people will find her. Could it be you? Link to app in comments (if you live in our adoption area of MD and the immediate surrounding areas.)

“Bird can be a little shy at first, but give her some time and she’ll warm up and bond with her person. Once she’s comfortable, she’s sweet, playful, and loves being around her people. She enjoys playing with other dogs, but also respects their boundaries and is happy to give them space. We don’t have cats at home, but she respects our resident dog’s space and they get along well so we think she would be fine with a cat.

“She’s curious about what everyone is doing and loves people-watching. Sunbathing is part of her morning routine! She’s fully potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house.”

He made it! The vocal and jumpy little guy who was adopted and returned thrice from the shelter is now a Tara’s House dog. 🥰 No more bouncing around from house to shelter to house and back - the next time he makes a landing it will most certainly be in his furever home. 🏡

Formerly referred to as Wookie, we are dubbing him ‘Sir Winston’ with high hopes that he will live up to the properness of his new moniker. If he doesn’t, he may get demoted back to Wookie. 🤣 So far so good, and he’s happily making new frens in his foster home. 🐕🐶

Not yet available for adoption (and even when he will be, please note our adoption area on our home page), we will get to know what his ideal home is like and give him some structure and stability while that emerges.

It’s Saturday! What better day to get your Freedom Ride 🚙 out of the shelter! IROH says, there are none better. 🤍🤎

We will, of course, keep you posted on how this adorable big teddy-bear of a guy does over the coming days and let you know when he’s ready to audition for the role of being his new human. But for now, he’s going to take a nap. 💤

Tarashouse.org has the bios and photos of all our adoptable dogs.

It’s been several days since her freedom ride 🚙 and it’s time for a GRETA “settling-in Pupdate.” 💖

We could keep it short and just say she is a stereotypical young Golden Retriever that has wiggled her way into her foster family’s hearts and home, but that wouldn’t be any fun. So here’s what Foster Mom has reported:

“She's SO sweet. She's playful, gentle, doesn't jump up, doesn't mouth, understands dog toys vs random items. LOVES all people but especially kids.

“Sleeps in her crate all night, no fuss there.

“Had peed and pooped outside which feels like a big win.🏆 Amazingly - no inside incidents and actually used the dog bell today (though it may have been a fluke - we will see if it happens again)

“When supervised, she is coexisting nicely with pups and cats alike, though she doesn't understand why they don't want to play, haha.

“When Sam (resident dog) denies her invitation to play- she just walks away and gets herself a chew toy.

“Update - we are calling her Ariel - because she wants to be where the people are.

“So far her fatal flaw is when she drinks water, so does the floor 🤣 but not on purpose.

“She nuzzles into my hand for pets when I stop petting her.”

//////////
It’s only been a few days and Greta, aka Ariel 😁, is still recovering from her spay and needs to gain weight, having come in at only 40 lbs 🥺 — so she is not yet ready to receive adoption applications.

Stay tuned for more updates, but until then, check out our other adoptable dogs at tarashouse.org and as always….

🐦‍⬛Little Bird 🐦‍⬛
She’s small. She’s quiet. She’s calm and sweet and has been waiting for her humans to find her for oh-so-long now. ⏳

But she is happy and content, even having just had two applicants back out. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ She is living her life the way we all should… minding her business and taking joy out of just being alive. 💖

Enjoy her little self coming at ya, and if you see a sweet, quiet and a little shy, 7-ish year old Pekingese mix in your life please apply for her at tarashouse.org (link in comments). 🥰

Miss Jelly hurt her leg yesterday and had a little trip to the ER vet with her foster pawrents. 🚑 (She didn’t really have to go in an ambulance. 😁) But tonight she would like everyone to know that she is doing much better today!

“She’s been moving slow and resting. Her walk looks a lot better, and she hasn’t made any sounds signaling pain. Today we reduced to maybe a mile total so far, mostly short walks out and back and she did great. So seems like she’s making a good recovery from whatever she did to her leg. 🍗”

Good golly, this girl is sweet. And so well behaved. 🩺🥼🩻

If you would care to help with her vet bill (it was $211 for the visit and meds), you can 🙏😊

UPDATE: Foster Found and Iroh's coming to Tara's House!

What do you get when you cross a St. Bernard with a Poodle?

An 89lb dog that got surrendered to a
shelter due to no fault of his own. (Owner’s mother moved in and has a fear of large dogs.) 😩

Volunteers say he is “super chill” - just look at the big guy and you can see that’s true. “Easy to walk, calm and gentle, let me pet him. He was non-reactive to other dogs.” At this point this is all we know about him (no info on kids, other dogs, cats, etc so please don’t ask in the comments) but we will update the post if we learn more.

Just because he’s been doodled doesn’t mean he’s hypoallergenic, and he WILL need grooming. But he’s 5, already neutered and has been kept up to date on medical. Which means he can leave the shelter immediately - we just need a foster to make him a Tara’s House dog. If you live within our adoption area (MD and the surrounding areas) you must fill out an application to foster if you’re not already approved. Link in comments.

His name is IROH and he’s waiting patiently. Can you help?
