PARIS 🤍🧡

Today was going to be her adoption day but things don’t always work out as planned. 🫠 One of the good thing about dogs is that they don’t let a change of plans ruin their day. And one good thing about Paris is that she pretty much enjoys every day to the fullest. 🤗

Even though she’s been with Tara’s House for a while we really haven’t shared much about her personality or what her perfect home is. That is, until now… (Spoiler alert: she’s a ball of energetic fun!)

Paris has spent the past 3 weeks with the training magicians of Ridgeside K9 Central MD and as we reported in her previous post, she had a blast there. Why? Because Paris is a super fun little dog and the trainers know how to engage her body and mind. Her anxious behavior that she displayed previously has melted away. She is more confident and happy, and when it’s time to settle - she can and does. She eagerly played the game of “what am I learning today” and thought it was all a hoot, because training can be fun when you make it so.

Paris’ perfect home has someone in it most of the day. She needs lots of movement and can play, play, play as much as you are willing. (Fetch with her favorite acorn toy is just the bomb.) But now she can also play on her own, and then cuddle up on the couch with you. Her perfect home knows that she’s the kind of dog that needs mental stimulation too, and can exercise her mind with structure, learning and games.

Paris does good with other dogs in the house, but prefers the company of humans. She will mostly ignore or coexist with other dogs and has lived with a cat previously. She is less nonchalant about other dogs while out on a leash, but a confident handler with a strong relationship with her makes all the difference there. If that’s not something you feel excited about, a fenced yard with lots of fetch and play time would be a fantastic alternative to leash walking.

Paris needs a furever home to go home to. If yours matches the description of her perfect home, then please go to tarashouse.org and fill out an application. She would be excited to meet you. 😊

It’s summertime! Time for outside play in a new haircut with a new fren. ✂️🐶

🐦‍⬛Little Bird’s🐦‍⬛ personality unveil goes something like this… (Spoiler alert: she’s an absolute doll baby!)

Having put the fear of being left at a shelter behind her, she has warmed up to her surroundings, people, and new lot in life. In just a few short weeks she has let her guard down, and her sweet-natured playfulness has taken center stage.

Bird is curious, happy, playful and is respectfully interested in other dogs. And doesn’t she just look adorable with her new ‘do? 🤩

Her foster reports, “She seems comfortable around other dogs. Most of the time she and our senior dog simply coexist and do their own thing. Bird occasionally shows interest in playing, but our senior dog generally prefers her own space, so we haven’t seen much actual play between them.

We haven’t tested her with cats.

The dog she ran with at the park was a one-year-old puppy. I think she tends to observe first, and if another dog shows interest in her or invites her to play, she’s more likely to engage.

She was running around with other dogs today and having a great time. She also just started playing with toys today. Such a playful girl! 😊”

Check out her playing in the video in the comments section.

Apply at tarashouse.org if she’s your kind of fun. (No kids under 16 in the home please.)

🤍Lily🤍

It’s mom’s 💞 turn for the limelight now that dad (Ghost👻) got adopted and son (Enzo🩵) had his antics showcased earlier. 🤣

🤍Lily’s🤍 been busy delighting her foster parents and here’s what foster mom has to say about her… (Spoiler alert: she’s a pretty pawfect Samoyed!)

///“Lily gets sassier every day, and we mean that as the highest compliment. She is now first in line for treats, vocal about walkie time, and increasingly playful with Enzo. Today she also did GREAT with kiddos (ages 3, 6, 10, and
12). She happily accepted pets, was gentle around them, mostly lounged nearby, and earned herself some doggy ice cream for exemplary behavior.” ✨

///“Now for the biggest surprise... Ms.NewLily
The quiet little lady who arrived a short time ago has apparently been replaced by a very opinionated cloud. She has been talking, awooo-ing, requesting pets, and giving side-eye. She has also embraced landscaping as a hobby.
Not only has she started digging holes, but she has advanced to laying in them. She's now running, jumping, and playing. She was incredibly gentle with the visiting nieces and continues to take all of her supplements like a perfect little angel.”

///“Lily continues to be a star. 🌟
She has the cutest awoo's, has started running around everywhere, and decided that tackling our dog Lincoln is fun. She has also started sleeping on her back more often 🤣

Most notably, she LOVES Lincoln.
Every morning and evening he comes over to say hello, and she gets visibly excited. Honestly, we've never seen her this enthusiastic about seeing Ghost or Enzo 😂

///“Lily remains a woman of refined tastes and prefers her fresh beef/lamb food and essentially every treat known to mankind.

Lily continues to be a silly gal. She is incredibly talkative, loves tearing toys in half with Enzo, enjoys spending time with Lincoln and Teddy, and fully expects her nightly scratch quota to be met. Yesterday she went on a car ride and spent part of the trip howling at city dogs. We're still not entirely sure what that was about. Our best guess is that she may not have had many opportunities for public outings or car adventures recently. She handled everything well though and seemed very interested in observing the world.”

///“Lily would probably be fully integrated into the household at this point (if it were only her and not her and Enzo.) She respects boundaries, reads social cues well, and generally just wants snacks and scratches.

Overall, everyone is doing great. Lily continues to blossom, Enzo continues to keep us entertained, Lincoln (resident dog) continues being unreasonably patient, and Teddy (resident dog) continues serving as the neighborhood boundary enforcement officer.

Lily especially is going to make someone ridiculously happy. She's blossoming more every day and keeps revealing new little pieces of her personality. Whoever adopts her is getting a very sweet, very funny, very opinionated marshmallow.

And despite all of Enzo's teenage-boy decisions, I think he's going to do wonderfully too. He's already making progress every single day. I suspect he's getting more socialization, structure, and exposure than he's had in a long time given how much we bring our dogs around with us everywhere. Plus, all the activity is finally starting to tucker him out!

We've really enjoyed watching both of them decompress and discover how to be curious again. We're excited for them to find a great family/ families!”

———-
Well there you go, a wonderful picture of the two floofs that we still have in our care. Mom and son can be adopted together, but do not have to be if there are other friendly dogs in the home (we prefer breed experience given their coat maintenance especially). If Lily🤍 or Lily and Enzo🤍🩵 sound like the perfect additions to your home, please apply at Tarashouse.org.

🩵Enzo’s🩵Personality Unveil (spoiler alert: he’s a goofy and somewhat unruly teenager) 😂🤪

Straight from his foster, who has an up-front-and-personal seat to his antics, the following narrative describes Enzo’s personality as it has come to light over the past week or so. Read on, and enjoy!…

/// “Since Ghost left the nest, Enzo has definitely been letting loose. This morning we woke up to a chewed up camera cable. 😫 We think he has a future in tech or the CIA.

He has also been digging holes, tugging on toys, jumping into laps, and generally embracing his inner puppy. Honestly, we're thrilled to see it, despite needing to redirect him. 😅 Enzo keeps us laughing constantly.

He also spent lots of time outside helping with yard cleanup, mulching projects, and entertaining my nieces.”

/// “We actually had an accidental Samoyed meetup this morning with our boys, Lincoln and Theodore. My husband was walking Lincoln and Teddy in the backyard when Enzo blasted through the screen door. 😂 We would have been more surprised if our Teddy Bubbas (who is part mule) hadn't already established that as one of his favorite party tricks. Lily and Enzo immediately ran over to investigate. Since Lincoln and Teddy were on leash and Enzo had previously been a bit barky, I quickly put Enzo on leash as well. Thankfully Enzo was all bark and curiosity, not bitey.

We kept Enzo at a safe distance throughout. He did quite a bit of barking, but honestly we think it may have been excitement and curiosity rather than anything concerning. During the approximately 30 seconds he was loose, his primary goals seemed to be sniffing everyone and running around.”

/// “The daily walks continue to go well, minus the squirrel hunting. Enzo has been walking on two legs if a squirrel is spotted. Lily will occasionally join his anti-squirrel task force, though she is less committed to the mission.”

/// “Enzo has been approximately two handfuls this week. We nearly called the police (a.k.a. Ghost) to come place him under arrest.

On Monday he was granted free-roam privileges while we were away from 10:00 AM–3:00 PM. During that time he:
• Destroyed part of a Kong bed
• Distributed fireplace wood throughout the house
• Reorganized several toys
• Ignored our security camera instructions

Needless to say, he lost some privileges.

Yesterday I worked from home and personally witnessed him trying to chew on a dog spray bottle. He was shocked to see me materialize in person after talking on camera. A few hours later he was caught attempting to scale the chimney area in pursuit of treats. He was once again shocked he was caught.

He received some crate time to help him settle and regroup.

Honestly, we're not sure whether we're giving him more freedom than he's accustomed to? Initially he would only use the restroom twice a day, stay in the crate, and not p**p on walks. Now he’s doing better about making good use of outdoor time, but unsure what he was used to? Either way, we're continuing to work on calm settling, appropriate free-roam behavior, and making good decisions.”

/// “Today has been much better. After his morning walk he independently chose to rest, which felt like a major victory.

Today we had our most successful interaction yet: Enzo was on leash while Lily, Lincoln, and Theodore were off leash. After a brief period of excitement, he settled nicely, greeted them appropriately, and remained calm.”

If Enzo sounds like the perfect bit of rambunctious for you, please apply at tarashouse.org! 👩‍💻👨‍💻

🙌FOSTER NEEDED🙌
Lulu is in Texas and needs a foster so we can make her a Tara’s House dog. She is a 3 year old deaf pittie mix.

Why foster or adopt a deaf dog? They are often very calm and don’t bark as often as dogs with hearing, yet they can learn commands with using hand signals rather than voice. They love just as hard. 🤍

She is doing well with other dogs, cats and loves playing. She is 75 lbs. See some videos in the comments of her playing and with other dogs.

Please reach out if you can help and we will arrange transport. 🙏🚖

💞PARIS💞
She’s been hard at work, but had such a good time she thought it was all fun and games, at Ridgeside K9 Central MD these past few weeks! Now she’s juuuust about ready to meet her new family.

Impulse control, basic obedience, manners, neutrality when meeting other dogs, and leash walking… she now has all the keys to a happy life in any situation.

Training is so important for your dog to be a happy dog. It builds confidence and reduces stress and anxiety. If your dog could use help with any of these areas, the trainers at Ridgeside can help change lives for the better.

Thank you to the folks who helped with Flash’s ER bill (we aren’t close to being whole yet, in case you can still help 🙏) and to all the well-wishers. We are happy 🙌 to report that she feels 100% better after her chocolate-fest-then-purge party and is back to her spunky-self! We also wanted to tell you that she knows how to use a pillow 🛌, just in case you were wondering. 🤣

Flash is good to go for her first staycation short-term foster need, but she will also need a place to crash (preferably one with a pillow and NO chocolate chip cookies in it) from:

June 19 - July 10

But better yet, Flash needs a furever home. She really is a sweet, happy and hilarious girl in a perfectly-sized package!!

Please reach out if you can help a gal out. 🙏

We hate to ask, but this was expensive and we need donations to help cover. 🙏😭

It’s never good to have to use an emergency vet but when you do you do. Flash ⚡️was lightning quick and snatched 20 homemade dark chocolate chip cookies off the counter (heavy on the chocolate) last night and had to have activated charcoal to help her get it out of her system. 🤦‍♀️

She had her second dose of charcoal this am and is doing OK. She also had a talking to by the chef of the said cookies.

Our donation fees are meant to cover the cost of care while a dog is with us, but there’s no way they cover an emergency vet bill. Any amount of donation would help. We are a 503(c)1 and any donation is tax deductible. Thank you!
