Another sad day on the ranch… this is part of the breeding aspect of things. And this is one that I’m glad happened this route vs taking the mare.

Ellis miss Amber aborted her twins. When we last checked her she had no twins as to why we proceeded with the pregnancy. Her body decided to abort them vs carrying them to term and I am okay with this outcome because the mare means more to us than you’d imagine. But these two little ones would’ve been cool to see born, one c**t and one filly. The c**t looked to be ether a sorrel or a possible buckskin, while the filly was going to be possible black, grulla, or buckskin. They were just starting to form there hair. But sadly still 3 months out of being born.

God has a plan for our program and we just haven’t found out exactly what it is yet. RaeLynn is taking two more to the barrel pen for momma, and thats okay. I’m forever grateful boss mare is healthy and healing emotionally.

Burnin like tequila update !

We had our last day of medications today. So far little swelling has returned but managed with turnout and cold hosing.

Unfortunately have found 3 new spots of hair that is trying to fall off. The old spots are scabbing and growing hair which is a nice twist.

We’re going to continue to stall rest her and cold hose her until I have my baby, and hopefully by than I see more positive answers in her healing.

We’re also going to work on getting her top line back as stall rest has not been kind to her.

She also looked her best in the golden hour of the day ❤️

BURNIN LIKE TEQUILA aka tequila UPDATE!

The swelling has dispersed mostly its nice to see her legs again! The skin has stopped trying to fall off so that’s been nice. She got her first hose down as well today with the 44 degree temperatures!

Today was the last day of the dexamethasone shot, so we are still left with two medications until this weekend. However, I hope that as we start dwindling meds she continues to be on the mend vs regress like last time 🤞🏻

some more thoughts and prayers are needed as she is doing better but still sore in the rest of her body as she recovers. 🙏🏻

Little update on BURNIN LIKE TEQUILA aka tequila,

Sunday night we notice some extra gunk on the back of tequilas pasterns. And she was once again back to not wanting to walk at all. So we started to look and found that chunks of hair and skin were comming off…

so we hosed her off as quickly as we could than iodine scrubbed her, to expose what we could see. She also was not letting us pick up her feet as it was too much weight for each leg to Hold. We quickly towel dried her off the wet areas and wrapped the worst leg. And proceeded to send pictures to the vet with the update.

Monday appointment was scheduled and at this point 4 vets have been called to consult with what possibilities could be causing this. While there is still no answer as to what we checked for
Autoimmune, laminitis (xrays were clean and clear), any other punctures or dying skin, and scratches. Right now we are treating it as a really bad case of scratches.

She got prescribed three additional medications for another 2 weeks + depending on the medication.

Unfortunately even though we were hand walking her she had lost a lot of muscle mass in her back and hind end. Even with endless food it goes to show proper management of movement is important to the horses biomechanics. And she was not moving much unless forced.

Since then, she has been showing improvement by wanting to walk more and we trimmed her feet up (thanks to my husband) to help make her a little more comfortable. The swelling is still present but getting a little better with her wanting to move on her own. We did a second scrub and more skin came off but I’m hoping the live skin will take over now.

Still no where near out of the woods, but she is getting the care she needs right now, also making this broke horse girl even more broke 🙃 prayers are always welcome as this has been a very weird case to begin with.

A little BURNIN LIKE TEQUILA aka tequila update.

She’s doing much better the swelling in her hind legs has gone down with the help of back on track and some ligament gel.

There is still some decent swelling in her hocks and her pastern joint had a deep popping sound that we’ll be addressing later on.

For now she is continuing stall rest with hand walking she is down to one medication once a day so that has been nice to address within itself cause that means we’re getting closer to the end of this nightmare.

As the swelling has gone down we noticed several puncture marks within 3 out 4 of her legs and even up her nose to were is wasn’t visible unless we looking for it specifically.

None of the punctures are torn and we have seen a pair of foxes in the area (they also took out most our chicken flock, at least the ones that were loose).

We are thinking tequila provoked them into attacking as she often chases the dogs and any other 4 legged creature (most our horses do). And for some reason instead of taking off they thought to attack fully.

But still who really knows what happened.🙏🏻

This baby will also be eligible for futurities. And paid into the needed ones prior to sale.

ELLIS MISS AMBER was a rockstar in and out of the arena, she’s gritty and a hard worker, and loves her jobs. she also is very kind and sweet to the next rodeo athletes.

GOOD GUY BLAZIN has papers that speaks for themselves. Though he hasn’t competed his offspring are hitting the pens this year!

Tequila update,

The other night we had a pretty big scare. With one of my hopefuls. BURNIN LIKE TEQUILA aka “tequila” decided to get into something or swell up like a balloon with out a trace of how.

She had fluid excreting from her legs because of the swelling and a bloody nose and eye. Her blood work came back unremarkable and she had no fever. Along with no signs of bite marks or punctures of any sort. We are still baffled as to how this happened.

Her feed and daily care has not changed by any means because allergies did cross our mind along with other sicknesses but nothing led to one choice. The first 12 pictures were day one and than the last of the pictures are 24 hours later.

I’ll post recents tomorrow. However we are not out of the woods yet, she’s one “quarantine/stall rest” until the swelling goes down a little more than we’ll start her on light turnout again. But she has a long time of meds to get through.

Big thanks to kind neighbors for helping and providing meds when I seemed to be missing some of mine and a big thanks to country side vet clinic for comming out and giving the rest of the meds and care for this girl to get back on the right track.

Quick introduction to the newest broodmare to the band. “JADO DASHIN” is an 2003 bay mare, she is currently in foal to “KOOL QUICK KID” with an Si of 101. We got this mare out of pure luck, and I think she came into our lives with some great purpose. She’s a big strong mare and we hope she will continue to be in our lives to provide some great babies for us, than live out her retirement as a baby sitter.
