As you know, the Atlanta Humane Society merged with the Georgia SPCA last year. We had a few challenges over the summer that led to us leaving the facility in Suwanee, but we are excited to let you know we'll be opening a new adoption facility in Gwinnett County early this spring!

We are excited to have the Georgia SPCA fully join the Atlanta Humane Society family through this new adoption center and through the people and animals it will serve.

The new adoption center will be located at 2148 Duluth Highway in Duluth, just 5 miles from the Georgia SPCA Suwanee location.

The Atlanta Humane Society is proud to be able to serve the community the way the Georgia SPCA did for so many years.

Along with the merger, you'll notice that the Georgia SPCA website and our social media pages will be routed to the Atlanta Humane Society's pages. Emails from the Georgia SPCA will also be ending.

If you would like to continue to receive updates from AHS and our new Gwinnett facility, please opt-in at this link: https://secure.atlantahumane.org/site/SSurvey?ACTION_REQUIRED=URI_ACTION_USER_REQUESTS&SURVEY_ID=2607

Over the past few months, we have been working to complete necessary remediation work at the Georgia SPCA facility in Suwanee. Ultimately, while these updates and modifications were necessary to comply with the location’s lease, the building is simply not fit for our sheltering operations and vision for our Gwinnett County initiative. Because of this, and our commitment to continue to serve this community, we wanted to let you know that we are actively seeking out options for a more suitable facility within Gwinnett County and will be ending all operations at the current facility.

We're looking to have this facility be a similarly sized adoption center focused on serving the greater northern Fulton and Gwinnett County communities that the Georgia SPCA has been a part of for years. Because of this necessary adjustment in our plans and the building's lease coming to an end, our final low-cost vaccination clinic will be September 22, and we will not be actively operating out of a facility until the new shelter is found.

We understand that this is different than what we were originally hoping and want to be able to further discuss the issues of the current facility and the immense opportunities that are ahead with our community. We will be hosting an open town hall meeting on October 11, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia SPCA facility in Suwanee to discuss our new plans, what this means for the community and how we’re looking to invest further in the region.

Thank you for your support during this time and into our new future.

If you've been by the shelter this summer, you probably noticed that we’ve had to temporarily close. During an inspection, the building was determined to require extensive renovations. As a result, we had to make the hard decision to temporarily close the shelter while the required repairs occur. We originally thought we would be back in the building in June, but the renovations in the adoptions area have been more extensive than anticipated.

Thankfully, renovations in half of the shelter have been completed, and we are able to continue conducting our Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic every other week. Our next event will be this Saturday, July 28 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.!

Abbie came into our care not long ago. She was so skinny and had been on the streets alone for so long. She was starving, covered in wounds, and dangerously dehydrated.

Thanks to support from donors like you, we were able to care for Abbie and ensure she did not spend her summer suffering in the hot summer sun.

Your support now will enable us to continue to care for animals just like her in partnership with the Atlanta Humane Society.

A House vote is expected soon on the Farm Bill, which includes a disastrous amendment that threatens animals all over the country. Please urge your U.S. Representative to oppose the King amendment (HR 4879) right now!

Rep. Steve King's (R-IA) legislation could gut animal-cruelty laws across the country. Bans on the sale of dog meat and laws that protect farm animals from cruel confinement, horses from slaughter and dogs from puppy mill abuse are at risk. It could also strip the authority of states to protect consumers from unsafe food.

This legislation is the single largest threat to animals in the United States right now. This dangerous measure is a part of the massive Farm Bill, which is expected to go to the House floor for a vote soon—and your voice is more important than ever in helping to stop King's dangerous legislation.
