Yesterday was such a nice day to go gaze upon the goats! This winters weather has been ridiculous and we’ve recently had windchills in the negatives, but today it’s 52* and rainy… but I’m super excited about our juniors! These will be the first two juniors that I’ve retained to see how they freshen! The main reason I didn’t keep their sire is because I had zero udder pictures or milk testing on his dam or siblings, really just relying on word of mouth that they were some really “milky” does. So freshening these kids is more of an experiment for me! But they are awful pretty to look at!

Barn kitty Mullein reporting for duty! Mullein’s lock down is officially over now that she knows the shed is her house and that she is friendly… I may have accidentally made her too friendly as a barn cat though… she is now very underfoot and begs for attention nonstop! 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Tansy has really turned a corner as well and has been begging for attention! Which is a total 180* from her growling and hissing at me… her lockdown will likely be over next week.

Well, my dreams were slightly crushed yesterday… My AI doe that was inseminated last Friday and Saturday shortcycled within 5 days. A goats heat cycle is every 21 days, so I wasn’t expecting her to cycle until the day after Christmas if she didn’t take… but she decided to punch me in the gut instead 🙃. We did one more AI attempt last night, but I’m not super confident in it. This morning I prepped to do a second attempt, but she no longer looked like she was in peak heat so I decided to save myself a straw and do live cover today to try and get her settled. She’s paired with Blackstream Farm KV Amadeus to still give us some exciting kids! Once babies are born I’ll have to send in their DNA to be tested before registering, but if we get any gold babies then it’s highly possible that they would be a product of our AI attempts!

Next up in our rabbitry introductions: “Royal” and Pistachio! These are currently our only “show line” Hollands that have been bred towards the standard of perfection and will be staying in the rabbitry for some time! They will be bred together for Vienna free litters for potential show prospects and they will also be crossed into our Vienna lines to improve the type and quality of our Vienna program! Both are very petite and weigh just over 3lbs! And neither are a huge fan of my posing them… so their pictures are not fantastic but well keep working on it.

Bell Bottom Bunnies and Silkies Princess- barn name “Royal”. Royal is a black otter. She is out of Napoleon Bunnyparte and Bastet’s Live Knot.

Woodland Holland Lops Pistachio is a broken cream. He is out of WL Chestnut and WHL Pearl.

Super exciting news… our very first AI is in the books! Denbow Acres Octavia was AI’ed to CH Bright Farms V Jedi Edition B*! This is going to be the longest 21 day wait… but we will know after Christmas if she took 😁 This was my first ever experience doing AI and I was very stressed because of how time sensitive it is, but I feel like it went really well! I’m really excited about the body capacity, brisket and width that this buck can add to our herd, and Octavia is one of the higher performing does we have in the ring but she can definitely use improvements.

Time to get back on track with updating pictures of breeders in our rabbitry! 🥰🐰Lots of exciting breeding plans for this...

Time to get back on track with updating pictures of breeders in our rabbitry! 🥰🐰Lots of exciting breeding plans for this spring! Of course I love them all or else I wouldn’t have so many… so I shouldn’t pick favorites, but MilkyWay and Milano are definitely near the top of that list! At least one, if not both of these girls will be bred to MilkyWay this spring for chocolate based babies.

This is a stunning buck that was the only surviving baby I got out of a bred doe from Goodnight Moon Rabbitry! He is out of Barne’s Bunnies “Blue Star” and Holland Hearts “Griffen”.

We have a couple new exciting additions to the farm! 😁 Meet Mullien and Tansy the barn cats! The plan was only to get one, the orange fluffy female… but she had other plans when I was moving her from the crate to her quarantine pen. She bolted and has been fending for herself. We saw no sign of her, so I thought bringing in a familiar kitty from where she came from would convince her to come back. Well, when I arrived home with kitty #2, kitty #1 was munching on her dinner left on the porch! 🤦🏻‍♀️ so we now have a semi-feral barn kitty and a semi-friendly barn kitty (that is successfully living in her quarantine kennel!)
