"Well, I don’t want to offend anyone."⠀

"I am really proud of my journey, but I can't talk or post about it."⠀

"I can't celebrate this milestone in my journey."⠀

YES YOU CAN.⠀

BE PROUD.⠀

SHARE YOUR JOURNEY.⠀

Do we share when we have completed other goals? Running a marathon? Getting healthy? Finishing our home improvement plans?⠀

Of freaking course. Those are all over social media. People congratulating them, telling them how great they did. And they should! Those are accomplishments they worked hard for.⠀

But so is your breastfeeding journey. This is so much unseen work put it. So many emotional days and nights. Hurdles. Issues. So many questions. ⠀

So much trying. So much perseverance.⠀

This. Is. Work. Hard work. And you're allowed to be proud of yourself and your journey. You're allowed to celebrate the small and big milestones throughout this journey.⠀

You may just inspire others to start sharing their stories. Share their struggles. Ask for help.⠀

It could start an open conversation and encourage more women than you know.⠀

Be proud.

Absolutely amazing read from a very good friend

.
𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝: An unhealthy attachment & psychological response to the person involved in or responsible for your trauma or traumatic event.
Let me make this clear: If you have a trauma bond, it is NOT. YOUR. FAULT. You are a VICTIM. A victim of a provider who cared more about his dinner plans than your birth experience & mental health. A victim of a nurse who let her own biases affect her ability to support you. A victim of a midwife who lied through her teeth & used fear to back you into a corner.
Read this loud & clear: We will NOT victim blame on this platform. What we WILL do is validate ALL situations of birth trauma.
Unfortunately, the person or people who cause birth trauma are not the ones left to heal from it. The freshly-postpartum woman is. As if physical healing & adjusting to all sorts of newness isn’t enough, we are left to process & heal from unwanted trauma.
Some of us haven’t reached the point of processing yet. Some of us have yet to realize that we experienced a traumatic event & have developed a trauma bond.
Hear this: If your provider’s use of outdated information/lies/fear-mongering/coercion/assault/lack of patience led you to a traumatic birth, then returning to that same provider for subsequent births may be the result of a trauma bond. Expecting a different birth experience while heading down the same path is not in yours or your baby’s best interest.
Us birth workers are here to help you. Let us guide you to the perfect provider & place of birth. Consider the support of a doula for your birth. Pray about/meditate on/envision/journal about your ideal birth. Create a birth plan. Stand up for yourself & don’t feel bad about it!
You are worthy. You are strong. You are capable. You are worth more than half-assed, rushed care.
