Rat snakes are incredibly good climbers. They use rough surfaces, corners, and even tiny gaps in brick or siding to work their way upward. Around Myrtle Beach, we commonly find them in attics, garages, and crawl spaces because they’re usually following one thing: rodents.
The good news is rat snakes are nonvenomous and actually help control rat and mouse populations outdoors. But when they end up inside the house, it’s usually a sign there may already be a rodent issue attracting them there in the first place.

This time of year is called bat blackout period. If there’s a maternal colony present and babies are involved, exclusions have to wait until the young bats are old enough to fly on their own later in the summer.
A lot of people hear “bat blackout” and think nothing can be done at all, but that’s not always the case.
If it’s:
• A single bat in the home
• A lone bat in the attic
• Or a bachelor colony (male bats without babies)
…we can usually still help with removal.
What we can’t do right now is seal up a home with dependent baby bats inside.
If you’re hearing chirping, fluttering, or seeing bats around the roofline at dusk, it’s still worth getting things checked out so you know exactly what you’re dealing with.
