As we turn off the lights and close the door on Christmas Eve, our wonderful dogs and puppies will be tucked in with their stockings hung high — filled with hope that Santa will find them right here at the shelter this year. 🎅🐶
When Christmas morning comes and the lights flip back on, their Christmas will begin. ✨
There will be morning potty breaks and cleaning, just like every day — but there will also be something extra special waiting for them: new toys, a special holiday meal, lots of playtime, and plenty of love. ❤️🧸
Because even though they don’t yet have homes of their own, they still deserve to feel the joy of Christmas morning.
If you are a past or present employee, or if you have volunteered with us at the shelter or our store over the last year, we would love for you to join us in celebrating!

👏SHOUT OUT 👏😀

To Ashley with Knox Vantage Pets for taking the time to volunteer with us today!

Not only did she get down and dirty in the kennels, she also washed a puppy or two and brought several dogs over to the play yard‼️

Miss Korkie one of our medical dogs was lucky enough to get to go back with her and join the Knox Vantage pack. Their foster based so this is a wonderful opportunity for Korkie ❤️

✨ Beautiful Zera ✨ came to us as part of a cruelty case from Fentress County. When she arrived, she was nearly starved to death… but just look at this gorgeous girl now! 💪❤️
Zera’s transformation is nothing short of amazing, and her sweet spirit shines just as brightly as her looks. She may enjoy the company of a big fur-brother, and meet-n-greets are encouraged to make sure it’s the perfect match. 🐕🤍

A Christmas Wish from the MoCo Mutts Rescue Center...

Every night, when the shelter grows quiet and the lights are dimmed, our dogs settle onto their beds and listen.
They hear the wind outside.
They hear doors close.
They hear families laughing somewhere beyond these walls.

They don’t know what Christmas is—but they know what home feels like… or at least, they remember.

Some remember sleeping at someone’s feet.
Some remember a warm couch.
Some have never known anything except survival, yet still wag their tails when a human walks by.

This time of year, the world feels especially loud with joy—decorations, gatherings, full houses, full hearts.
And in the middle of it all, our shelter dogs wait.

They wait patiently.
They wait quietly.
They wait with hope they don’t even realize they still have.

They don’t ask for much.
Just a warm place to rest.
A hand that won’t leave.
A name spoken with love.

This Christmas, you could be the miracle they’re wishing for.
You could turn a kennel into a couch…
A lonely night into a lifetime of love.

Petros-Joyner Elementary School went above and beyond. The Second and Third Graders presented us with an awesome donation of puppy food, blankets, bisquits, dog food and kitty supplies. Thank you!!!

Oliver Springs address in the Coalfield area on HWY 62.

This kitty is hospitalized with what appears to be back issue, probably hit by a car.
We will likely need to make a quality of life decision in the morning but for tonight he/she seems stable enough to give us time to hopefully find it's family.
