FIP Warrior: LeRoyâs Story đŸ
Not long ago, a diagnosis of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) meant there was little hope for recovery. But thanks to recent advancements in veterinary medicine, weâre seeing miraclesâand LeRoy is one of them. This brave boy spent 3 months at our clinic fighting FIP with a treatment protocol that simply didnât exist just a couple years ago. Today, heâs heading home to his family, healthy and strong. To see him purring in his carrier, ready for life outside the hospital walls, is nothing short of extraordinary.
When LeRoy first arrived, he just wasnât himself. He was quiet, not eating well, and couldnât seem to gain weight no matter how hard he tried. X-rays revealed fluid in his abdomen, and testing confirmed what we feared: FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), a rare and serious illness caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirusâa distant relative of the virus we all became a little too familiar with in recent years. Faced with the cost and length of treatment, his loving owner made the incredibly hard decision to surrender him, hoping we could give him a fighting chance. And thatâs exactly what we set out to do. LeRoy began treatment at just over 7 pounds, and over the weeks, we watched him slowly transformâeating better, feeling brighter, and gaining weight (and confidence) every step of the way. By the end, he tipped the scales at over 10 lbs and his final x-rays were clear. It was a true joy to watch him heal.
We couldnât have done this without our amazing nursing staff, who cared for LeRoy every single day with patience, dedication, and so much love. His story is a reminder of how deeply pets impact our livesâthey're our companions, our comfort, and our joy. LeRoy is one of many special cats we've had the honor of helping. Right now, weâre caring for a diabetic kitty, a sweet bonded pair of sisters, and one very independent gentleman whoâs still figuring out how he feels about cuddlesâall of whom are looking for loving homes. If LeRoyâs journey touched your heart and youâre wondering how you can support our mission, reach out. Whether it's adopting, fostering, or just sharing their stories, there are so many ways to help us keep doing this work we love. đ
