Sumter Animal Control The Animal Control Unit’s primary role is to proactively limit the number of stray animals running at large in the City of Sumter.

This page is managed by volunteers to post found pets and network for adoption/rescue. We do not handle complaints or get involved with issues that need to be addressed by law enforcement. If you need to talk to Animal Control to file an animal complaint, report an animal, or require assistance otherwise, please call the shelter at 436-2066. If you have an animal emergency outside of normal business hours, contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.

Say hello to Darla and Spanky, two absolutely adorable 5-month-old puppies who just arrived at the shelter. These siblings are as cute as can be — Spanky, a 28 lb boy, and Darla, his 25 lb sister — and they’re ready to find loving forever homes, together or separately! While everything is new and a little overwhelming, these sweet pups are already showing their playful and affectionate personalities. They were a bit cautious at first, but they’re warming up quickly and learning the ropes — including how to walk on a leash. Darla and Spanky are full of puppy energy, tail wags, and kisses. They love attention and affection, and they’ll happily soak up all the love you’re willing to give. These two are a bundle of fun, and it's impossible not to smile when you're around them! This precious lady , approximately 5 years old and 38 pounds, was released to animal control by her owner who because of his traveling job he was not home enough to take care of Greta. Despite having her world turned up side down Greta has adjusted to the shelter and is ready to start her new life with a loving family! Greta is a gentle, snuggly soul who adores attention. She’ll happily curl up by your side all day for scratches and pets, showing her quiet, loving nature with every nuzzle. It may be a blessing in disguise that she was given to the shelter because poor Greta has been allowed to have litter after litter.This sweet girl would thrive with a family dedicated to giving her the love, care, and adventure every dog deserves.
