Sumter Animal Control

Sumter Animal Control The Animal Control Unit’s primary role is to proactively limit the number of stray animals running at large in the City of Sumter.

This page is managed by volunteers to post found pets and network for adoption/rescue. We do not handle complaints or get involved with issues that need to be addressed by law enforcement. If you need to talk to Animal Control to file an animal complaint, report an animal, or require assistance otherwise, please call the shelter at 436-2066. If you have an animal emergency outside of normal business hours, contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.

Saving Sumter's Strays will be at the Touch A Truck Event on June 6th 9:00-12:00 with our special guest Toby the Therapy Dog!

Toby is a six-year old Great Pyrenees who had a stressful start in life. He was bounced around between four different owners before his first birthday due to the unexpected passing of one owner and the incapacitation of another during the COVID pandemic. His current owner adopted him in 2021.

Not knowing where he truly belonged, Toby chose to give his heart and love to everyone he met. As a result, he became a certified therapy dog at the age of three, providing comfort to those in need, elderly and children alike.

From "rescue" to therapy dog, Toby embodies the resilient spirit of the shelter animal who never gives up hope of finding their forever home.

Haven is a beautiful young girl who weighs around 35 pounds and is estimated to be 1–3 years old. Haven gets along well with the other dogs and absolutely adores attention from people. She is always happy to spend time with the volunteers, soaking up pets, affection, and companionship. She also walks pretty well on a leash and enjoys getting outside for strolls and fresh air. If you are looking for a sweet, friendly companion to add to your family, Haven may be the perfect match. Savingsumterstrays.com/adopt
