Sumter Animal Control The Animal Control Unit’s primary role is to proactively limit the number of stray animals running at large in the City of Sumter.

This page is managed by volunteers to post found pets and network for adoption/rescue. We do not handle complaints or get involved with issues that need to be addressed by law enforcement. If you need to talk to Animal Control to file an animal complaint, report an animal, or require assistance otherwise, please call the shelter at 436-2066. If you have an animal emergency outside of normal business hours, contact the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.

Essie is ready to Trick or Treat!
Essie is a sweet and loving girl who is hoping her days of being on her own are finally over. She ended up at the shelter after wandering around a neighborhood, where kind neighbors had been leaving food out for her. It seems this precious girl had been fending for herself for quite some time.Essie is about 1–3 years old and weighs 47 pounds. She is friendly with everyone she meets—both people and other dogs! She walks nicely on a leash and absolutely adores ear scratches, tummy rubs, and spending time with her human friends. Essie is such a wonderful girl, and we can't help but wonder how she ended up without a family of her own. She deserves a safe and loving home where she will never have to wonder where her next meal is or whether someone will come looking for her. Savingsumterstrays.com/adopt

Rip is a big, gentle fella who finds himself at the shelter and is now hoping to find a family to call his own. At 62 pounds and approximately 2–4 years old, this handsome boy is looking for someone who loves the bigger dogs and has room in their heart for a whole lot of love! This adorable little girl is Dixie! She is a 40-pound sweetheart, approximately 1–2 years old, and ready to find a family to call her own. Dixie is friendly with people and other dogs, loves attention, and is just the perfect medium size for a loving companion!
Dixie is still working on her leash skills, but she is improving every day! With a little patience, encouragement, and lots of love, she will continue to blossom into a wonderful walking buddy
