We are almost 48 hour post surgery… and he has met all of his “goals.”
If we have ever spoke in person, most of you have heard me say what a goofy dog Goose really is. He and his human counterpart are two peas in a pod! He is the most lovable and eager to please pup!
I noticed Thursday Goose wasn’t acting his normal, but Maggie is in heat (and not being bred) and the boys normally act weird when the girls are in heat. I didn’t think much of it. Friday morning rolls around and Goose starts spitting up (not vomiting). I offered him treats,he refused. He just didn’t look well, so off to our vet he went. He progressively got worse in the few hours he was there. Bloodwork was great… X-ray was suspicious.
At 5pm he underwent emergency exploratory surgery, which our vet explained due to his deteriorating condition, bowel dilation, etc. the odds were not in his favor to make it through surgery. 2 hours later we get the call he was out and she had recovered 2 toys he swallowed WHOLE! These were not tiny toys… the one toy was roughly 3-4 inches big and would not have been deemed easy to swallow. The other was a puppy toy he must have found outside (courtesy of Liberty who always wants to grab a toy to take with her outside). We never saw Goose with either toys in his mouth. Goose has never been one to play with toys, so we were all shocked. Thankfully our vet saved them so I could identify them and could clear any of similar size from the toy bin.
We are so thankful for our vet, Selby Veterinary Services, PLLC and her staff for the exemplary care they provided to Goose. She has been our vet for 18 years and has always taken care of our pups like they were her own!
Goose will be recuperating for the next several weeks! We appreciate everyone that reached out to check on him and our family!
PSA: Check your puppy toy boxes… if toys are ripped, damaged throw them away. If you question their size… take them away!
