SC FFA had their state convention this week in Greenville, SC. Many of our Swamp Foxes attended this convention and competed in multiple events. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work and dedication that they have shown. Leadership and Career Development Events, are competitions that allow our students to build leadership skills and have hands on experience in real world situations and careers.
Our students placed in four competitions: Ag Communications CDE, Employment Skills CDE, Parliamentary Procedure LDE, and the AgriScience Fair. We are extremely proud of all of the participants, even if they did not place in the top 3. Each competition requires practice, studying, and extensive effort to complete.
Our Ag Communications team was required to create a pitch on promoting the importance of agriculture, through partnering with a farmer or rancher. The team created a communications plan to promote horticulture around Dorchester County. They received 2nd place in the state! Our student, Abagail Daniels, competed in the Employment Skills CDE. She created a resume and a cover letter, while also completing a job application. After placing in the preliminary round, she got invited to attend a state level interview, where she placed 3rd in the state. The Parliamentary Procedure LDE team placed 3rd. This team completed a test on different information on Robert's Rules of Order, and they did a presentation on the proper way to hold an organized meeting using parliamentary procedure. Lastly, both of our AgriScience Fair teams placed 2nd in their divisions. Our division 6 team did a project that focused on how growing, specifically lettuce, compares between using hydroponics and soil. Our division 3 individual presented how the purity of water effects the immune and digestive system.
Additionally, we are proud of our student, Abagail Daniels, for being awarded her State Degree. This degree requires diligent labor towards their SAEs, as well as leadership around their communities. Ashley Walters, our retired 2024-2025 president, ran for state office as well. Ashley went through a vigorous interview process and represtened Ashley Ridge all week! Our chapter received the Silver National Chapter Award for implementing the mission of FFA in the community.
