PLEASE during this time keep your horses home! EHV-1 is no joke. If you or know someone you know has potentially came into contact with someone’s horse who has EHV, please keep a close eye on them! Prayers are going out to all horses and owners who have been affected by this.

I will not be taking in any client horses for training/consignment or allowing haul-ins for lessons until further notice. Let’s keep these horses safe!

PRESS RELEASE: Commissioner Sid Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) today issued an alert to Texas horsemen of an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1) reported by Texas veterinarians after the recent World Championship Barrel Racing (WPRA) Finals in the Waco area on November 5-9. Commissioner Miller is urging all horse owners, trainers, and venue operators who attended or were in proximity to the event, or who have recently returned from any large equine gathering in the Waco region in the last 14 days to act swiftly, monitor their animals carefully, and implement heightened biosecurity measures.

“This virus can spread fast, it can be deadly, and the earliest signs are often so subtle they’re easy to miss,” Commissioner Miller, himself an avid horseman, said. “That’s why monitoring your horses right now is critical. The quicker we identify a potential case, the better chance we have to protect not only our animals, but the entire Texas equine community.”

Back for year two with us, Introducing Wendi Miller!

Wendi started her equestrian journey at a very young age. She started out riding and showing western pleasure, horsemanship, halter, and showmanship. Her insatiable need for knowledge about horses grew over the years and she had the benefit of learning new disciplines including barrel racing, reining, and trail. She took time off other than trail riding and working her personal horses while in nursing school and becoming a mom. During this time she found a new love in therapeutic horsemanship and became an active volunteer (and later employee) at Equest. In 2020 after recovering from a nearly life ending accident and injury, Wendi came back to her love of barrel racing. She has been successful in winning Top 5 and Reserve champion buckles as well as winning checks in a gritty North Texas barrel racing community. Her goal is to qualify and be able to run at BBR Worlds while continuing to guide her young lesson students in the art and love of horsemanship.
