Don’t worry, the baby native plants survived the winter storm just fine 😊

Slowly but surely, we continue to get seeds in soil. It’s going to be a great year for native plants!

We spent some time planting native plants in our local public prairie at the Door County YMCA Sturgeon Bay. Come back next year to see if you can find the over 150 plants that we put in the ground 👀

Congrats to our good friends at Healthy Way Market!!

Hello everyone—I hope you're doing well!

I have some big news to share, so I’ll cut right to the chase: We’re very excited to announce that we’re opening a second location in Green Bay!

We’ve been lucky enough to acquire the old Austin’s of Allouez/Sal’s Foods. We weren’t actively looking for a second location, but we’ve always loved this place—and when it suddenly became available in March, we had to throw our hat in the ring and see what might happen.

Over the years, we’ve also been asked many many times when we’re bringing a store to Green Bay. After many late nights and with support from Sal and Jessica at Sal’s Foods, the Small Business Development Cener at UWGB, and Nicolet National Bank—we got it!

It’s one of the last true corner grocery stores in Green Bay, and as far as we’re concerned, a local landmark.

What does this mean for Sturgeon Bay?

First off—our trusty Trina has been promoted to Front of House Manager (woohoo!!) She’ll be working alongside the rest of our amazing HW staff to keep things running smoothly.

Also, my wife Caitlin has officially left her corporate job to come support the store. She’s got a strong background in the natural grocery world and brings a whole toolbox of skills and ideas we’re excited to put to use.

This expansion will also help strengthen Sturgeon Bay—with more vendor connections, better pricing, and even stronger access to Wisconsin-made products.
Sturgeon Bay will always be the OG, and it will always be our home. We’re just excited to bring a little bit of that Door County magic to Green Bay!

What’s next?
- Build out the Green Bay store
- Open doors in October/November
- Keep moving forward with upgrades at the Sturgeon Bay location
- And so much more!

Lastly, none of this would be remotely possible without the support from the Sturgeon Bay/Door County community and our amazing staff. I’m so grateful for the ongoing support and belief in this store.

Here’s to local, independent grocery stores and to building a more resilient, community-rooted food system!

✌️Adam

We are excited to share the plant list for 2025! This year we kicked it up a notch and are offering over 60 species of native plants, including expanded options for dry soils and shady environments. We are also offering 8 milkweed species in an effort to encourage more habitat creation for the monarch butterfly. There was a lot of passion and love put into growing theses plants, and we can't wait to see you all at the !

It looks like we’re not the only ones that are stressing the importance of milkweed this year! We’re excited to be able to provide most of the native milkweed species listed here. Join us in protecting nature in our own yards!

The DNR Rare Plant Monitoring Program's Plant of the Year is Milkweed!

What does that mean?

Volunteers with the program can request surveys for Wisconsin's five rare species of milkweed to help create a statewide update on the status of these important plants. Rare plant surveys are based on past reports of when and where a plant was present.

The plant of the year becomes a focus, and knowing how the population has changed over time can tell us a lot about the health of habitats.

Besides rare milkweeds, Wisconsin has eight common species, like swamp milkweed pictured here. Adding milkweed to your garden is a huge help for monarch butterflies and other pollinators (like our 20 native bumble bee species)!
