CONGRATULATION ARE IN ORDER FOR THE 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FOR OUR REHABILITATION AND SPORT PERFORMANCE DEPARTMENT!!
Many years ago, we recognized a vital need in our surgical practice: Physical Rehabilitation. Our surgeons saw the value immediately, and our technicians were on board—pre- and post-surgical patients could benefit immensely. Unfortunately, space limitations kept us from fully realizing that vision, so we did what we could within our constraints.
That began to change in 2019 when we expanded our practice and purchased the building next door. This expansion opened the door—literally and figuratively—for the development of a dedicated Rehabilitation facility. Around that same time, Shannon B., CVT, joined our Surgery team. Little did we know, Shannon and (soon-to-join) Dr. Deb Lytle shared a powerful vision for advancing our practice with the addition of a full Rehabilitation department.
Dr. Lytle joined VSC in July 2020, just as she was finishing her Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) certification. By the end of July of that year, thanks to the combined passion and initiative of Dr. Lytle and Shannon, our Rehabilitation department officially launched. They started in a modest space and did all the things—hands-on care, scheduling, planning, and building the foundation from scratch.
In October 2020, we took a major step forward with the addition of our Underwater Treadmill. The original Rehab team—Dr. Deb Lytle, Shannon B., CVT, and Cullen McCarthy—set the tone for what would become a vital component of our practice.
Shannon B is working towards her CCRP. We welcomed Maureen C. CCRP, PTA who brings additional training from the human world and massage therapy, further strengthening our team’s expertise. Jeanette L., CVT, a previous member of our Surgery team with a strong interest in Rehab, and working towards her CCRP status, also joined the department. Ben Shryock, DVM, adds in Chiropractic care. Most recently, Ashley K. came on board as an assistant and is actively working toward obtaining her CVT credentials.
We are incredibly proud of our Rehab team—their vision, their dedication, and their unwavering commitment to the patients and the mission of VSC. What began as an idea born of necessity has evolved into a cornerstone of our comprehensive care approach. We can’t wait to see what this amazing team accomplishes next.
Join us in congratulating this wonderful crew!!!
