Routine cleaning and Disinfection for dogs and people during the quarantine period of the COVID-19 Ordinance.

Bleach
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a diluted bleach solution (⅓ cup bleach per 1 gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per 1 quart of water) for virus disinfection. Wear gloves while using bleach, and never mix it with ammonia—or anything, in fact—except water. (The only exception is when doing laundry with detergent.) Once mixed, don’t keep the solution for longer than a day because the bleach will lose potency and can degrade certain plastic containers.

After the dog walks through the diluted bleach solution, I am also wiping the dog‘s paws with a baby wipe.
We are also constantly cleaning surfaces. They are cleaned using a detergent or soap and water prior to disinfecting.

1. Most pets do not tolerate spicy seasonings very well or large quantities of food. Avoid giving pets a sampling of everything on the human menu.
2. Don’t let your pet have any bread dough. The yeast in bread dough will turn the sugars into carbon dioxide and alcohol, which could cause severe bloating. This could become life-threatening to your dog.
3. Make sure to dispose of turkey bones where the pet cannot get to them. These bones will splinter when chewed. Bones can get caught in a pet’s esophagus or intestinal track and could be life threatening.
4. Rancid food is full of bacteria and can make a pet very sick, so make sure garbage is not accessible to the pet.
5. Turkey stuffing may contain onions, garlic, or raisins—all toxic to dogs, so resist the urge to feed your dog human food.
6. Remind guests not to offer table scraps or appetizers to the dog.
7. If the family pet is skittish around people, noises, sudden movement then containing the dog away from the stimulation is recommended.
8. Offer special chew toys during the time people are buzzing around.
9. No Alcohol
10. Watch your decorations. Some flowers and plants, such as hydrangeas, amaryllis, baby’s breath, and ferns, are toxic to cats and dogs. If you choose to use plants to decorate your home for the holidays, choose plants that aren’t toxic to pets.
11. An open door or open garage may be an invitation for your pet to bolt. Keep your pet contained while guests are coming or going.
12. Make sure your pet has ID and license on a collar just in case it bolts out an open door.
