Took some bunnies to the show this weekend in Muscle Shoals Alabama and hung out with our friends at Paradise Acres farm and Ricketts Rabbitry and Great Danes.

Slaters Marshal won 2 best opposite of breed, and a best of breed. I have to check, but I'm fairly certain he now qualifies for Grand Champion status after his most recent win.

Our little blue silver martin netherland doe was 3x 1st place jr doe, 3x best of variety, and 1x best opposite of group (this put her in the running for best of breed). She got *amazing* comments from all the judges, and Angie (Paradise Acres) just could not resist bringing her home as one of her new foundation does for her netherland lines. So excited to see how she does as she grows.
The pairing that produced her was repeated, and imminantly due so we can hopefully get some more amazing little nethies out of them for fall shows.

Our hope is to be able to attend the show next month in Somerset for those wondering where to see us next.

Mr. Snekky noodle came back for another visit so I gave him some snuggles this time....
He was then shown a more appropriate location on the property to point his enthusiasm, and given a stern talking to.

There is something undescribable about watching an animal you've raised grow up and do the job they were bred to do.
and I participated in our first cattle clinic this weekend. The change from the first run to the fourth is night and day.
We have one more day left in this clinic, and then we get to figure out how to keep this going at home!

Five Acre Homestead Farm will be offering bags of rabbit manure to local gardeners who would like natural soil ammendments to increase their soils nutrition.

Rabbit manure is a cold manure, so it can go right into the soil without needing to be composted first.

It can be made into "tea" by soaking it in water for a time before being added to the garden, which encourages beneficial microbe growth.

Or it can be added as an ammendment to the compost pile to further energize the benefits your plants receive.

Worms love it too! Encourage healthy soil by giving natures airators an environment they thrive in.

Manure will be sold by the bag (recycling feed bags) and may contain pine shavings, wood pellets, or corn/fiber based urine absorber from the cage trays.

*Each bag will be filled according to the weight of the manure on the day it is filled to prevent the bags from ripping.*

Congrats to our 5x 1st place jr buck, Ditto (T3) who now has 9 babies between 2 different litters.
I am so excited to watch these lil beans grow and develop.

The first litter is out of Bug (ML2) who is a reserve in rare breed show as a junior.

The second litter is Luna (WH3, the L in ML2) who had some wins in her previous home before coming to live with us.

This might be the first litter out of 2 rabbits I've bred myself.

There were 3 originally, and then a fourth one appeared several hours later.
Bug is such a good mom, she keeps pulling fur. I could spin, ply, and knit enough yarn off that nest to make a sweater thats how much shes got on them babies!
