Fall changes the environment. Our risk assessment changes with it.

Dog camps and hiking services come in all shapes and sizes, from larger off leash groups to smaller managed outings. At Stratham Strolls, we’ve chosen the latter.

Fall brings heavier wildlife activity, lower visibility, changing trail conditions, and a whole new layer of scent. For a nose driven dog, one interesting trail can be enough to pull their attention away from the handler and send them off course.

“My dog has reliable recall.”

Great. We still use a leash.

“We use an e-collar as backup.”

Great. We still use a leash.

Because when we are responsible for someone else’s dog, our job is not to prove how reliably we can regain control after something happens. Our job is to reduce the opportunity for something to happen in the first place.

That is why our group hikes stay small, managed, and on leash. We are not trying to fit the maximum number of dogs into an outing. We are managing the dogs in front of us, the environment around them, and the risks that come with both.

We aren’t the service that takes chances and learns from mistakes when it comes to someone else’s family member.

We get your dog home safe. 🤍

We are deliberately small.

A large roster is not the goal. This industry already has enough chaos, and we are not interested in competing for the biggest client list or trying to appeal to everyone who shows interest.

We know what that looks like because we have been that business.

We learned quickly that more is not always better.

The more dogs you take on, the more room there is for missed details, mistakes, and unnecessary risk. We do not want our clients or the dogs in our care put in that position.

We would rather stay smaller, know the dogs in our care well, and provide high quality, consistent care.

We also want to know our clients beyond a name on a schedule. We value those relationships deeply, and we want the people who trust us with their dogs to feel like part of our family.

That is why our group hikes stay small, our boarding stays limited, and we are selective about who we take on.

We are also completely comfortable knowing we will not be everyone’s budget preference.

We are not trying to be the biggest, busiest, or cheapest option.

We are building the kind of service where dogs are known, clients are valued, and quality never gets lost in the shuffle.

And over the next few weeks, you are going to see our bar get even higher.

This is our standard, and it is what sets us apart. 🤍

When it’s too hot, we don’t cancel. We modify.

You pay for a service, you get the service and our best judgment.

That might mean a shorter outdoor portion, shaded grass instead of hot pavement, a potty and sniff break, lower intensity, indoor enrichment, or another safe modification based on the dog and the conditions. 🧩

Professional pet care isn’t about looking at the temperature and automatically removing a visit from the schedule.

It’s about assessing the conditions, adapting the care, communicating with the client, and safely providing the service they hired you for.

The weather changes. The responsibility doesn’t.

We regularly work with reactive dogs and accommodate them through management, not forced interaction.

Private walks, no leash greetings, route changes when needed, space from triggers, untimed scheduling, and muzzle use when appropriate all help us adjust care to the individual dog.

We are not trainers. We are confident handlers who understand that every dog has different needs, different thresholds, and a different definition of a successful walk.

We also understand that multiple dogs in one household can sometimes create their own safety concerns depending on the dynamic. When needed, we will work with owners to create a secure visit structure so each dog is safely and properly tended to.

If we do not feel we can safely care for a dog or household dynamic, we will be fully transparent and offer recommendations for a better fit.

Poodle based coats are adorable, but they need real maintenance, especially in the summer.

Their curly texture can hide mats close to the skin even when the coat still looks fluffy on top. Swimming, wet grass, humidity, collars, and harnesses can all make tangles tighten faster, so regular brushing and combing really matter.

One bonus with lighter poodle based coats is that ticks can sometimes be easier to spot while they are still sitting on top of the curls before they work their way down toward the skin. A quick coat check after walks, hikes, and time in taller grass is still important.

Keeping the coat clean, dry, brushed through, and comfortable goes a long way during warmer weather.

The backyard is useful, but it's not going to replace a walk.

The yard gives your dog the same smells, the same sights, and the same limited space. A walk gives them movement, changing scents, new information, different surfaces, new terrain, and a chance to engage with the world around them.

Bathroom break? Yes. Fresh air? Absolutely. Full exercise and stimulation? Not normally.

Since we care for pets in NH, some dogs only have access to the yard, and that is perfectly OK! For dogs who would benefit from more enrichment during yard visits, we recommend adding sniff games, scatter feeding, training, play, or safely using the environment around them. That could mean stepping over a log, climbing onto a low boulder, or getting their paws wet in a brook or another accessible water source where it is safe to do so. Working with each individual client is what we do best.

A little variety is the spice of life, even for dogs!
