Many of you may not know, but here in Colorado, we groomers are regulated by an organization called PACFA.
Over the last few weeks they have been trying to impose a vaccination requirement for all pets coming into all grooming shops. Bordatella, Distemper, Rabies, and Parvovirus. Many of you already do this on a regular basis, but there is some families that choose not to, low income families that can’t afford it, and even some pets that can no longer receive these vaccinations due to autoimmune diseases.
As a state there is no laws regarding vaccinations in Colorado. They tried to pass this back in 2016 and was quickly declined by the senate. Instead each county in Colorado regulates this based on their counties needs. Most counties do require rabies, and as a groomer I do require this as well since it is zoonotic and can be transmitted to humans.
My fear as professional, if this becomes a rule, there will be pets out there that will no longer have availability to a qualified groomers to help with these pets grooming needs.
I am asking my clients to please, if you have time, to email the email below with your concerns if this may affect you in anyway. As a professional, I monitor my clients pets closely, do not let them commingle, and send pets home immediately if they are showing any signs of sickness or concerns. And thankful many of you have always reached out before bringing a pet that may have a concerning illness, so I have only had to send 2 pets home in 10 years.
Again, I know this may not pertain to most of you. But I know there is some folks in our community that this may affect and I want to make sure their voices are heard too. If this rules does go into action it will start being implemented by the end of the year or beginning of next year.
Thank you for reading this, I know it’s a little long winded, but I always want to be transparent with all my clients.
