Get the facts about cat urinary health:

#1 - Domestic cats developed in the north African desert, where water is scarce and wild cats get almost ALL of their dietary moisture from their prey. As a result, cats don't have a natural instinct to drink. When they eat only dry food, they get chronically dehydrated and develop urinary issues, including crystals, infections and kidney disease.

#2 Diets with lots of meat, no grains and low levels of produce and carbohydrates are naturally more acidic than diets containing these ingredients.

#3 Bladder stones and bacteria that cause infections HATE acidic environments.

#4 Foods filled with grains, produce and carbohydrates create an alkaline urinary tract, which means more stones/crystals and more bacteria.

#5 "Prescription" foods add more salt so your cat will drink more water, which means flushing the urinary tract more. These foods also contain DL-methionine, which is a synthetic amino acid that makes the urine more acidic.

#6 Methionine is a natural amino acid that is present in high levels in meat, which brings us all the way back to #1!

Before feeding your cat a "prescription" diet, ask your vet what medicine is included in the prescription food. And then stop by and talk with us about alternatives to expensive grain-based foods with salt and synthetic amino acids!
