Everyone, please meet Splash the goat🐐💕
Check out her story 👇🩺
I met Splash my first evening back in Clovis. In the midst of unpacking from the recent chaos of graduation, grad parties and visiting friends and family my phone rang.
Considering that I didn’t officially start work for another week and it was already close to 8:30pm…I was curious why I was getting a call from my boss.
Come to find out, little Splash was having an impossible time trying to kid and every other large animal vet within driving distance was unavailable. (We need more vets!!!!) Although a bit nervous to fly solo on my first patient as Dr. Price, I excitedly agreed to help! Shoutout to FA med rotation 23 for giving me tons of experience with small ruminant dystocias😅
Splash was critical and it was evident she needed a c-section and intensive care to give her the best chance at survival. Having assisted and preformed several before, I was ready to go! However, I was quickly reminded that all animals do NOT read the textbook. Splash ended up being one of the most challenging surgeries for me so far. When I finally got the baby out it was evident why…this tiny 23 pound Pygmy goat had a 6 pound baby!!! Pygmy goat babies are normally only 2 pounds…😨
Honestly, I was’t sure she would make it through surgery but with the help and support of my ✨ROCKSTAR✨ team…I got to see Splash for her final recheck this weekend. 🥳
Her owner greeted me with a huge smile and a hug! Seeing a healthy Splash and the excitement on her owner’s face made the past 8 years of grueling school worth it.
I truly am in the greatest profession ever ❤️
