It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Howley, known to many for her beloved Candlewood Kennels. Mary was a tremendous influence in the retriever world for more than 50 years through her Candlewood breedings, her many great dogs and accomplishments, and her generous mentorship. She leaves behind an enduring legacy in the retriever community and in the hearts of all who knew her. Our deepest condolences to her family and many friends.

Biscuit is one of my past pups! ❤️

The insulin that gives life must be handled with care too much or too little can be dangerous.

Juice boxes and candy are kept close, not for treats, but to stop lows .

Restful nights are rare ..alarms and worries often wake me up.

The steady beeping of devices is part of my night .

Blood sugar readings guide my choices moment by moment.

My CGM beeps everyday and night .

Bedtime means double checking numbers and praying for a quiet night.

Blood sugar is up and down.

We count carbs not to diet, but to survive.

We treat lows with lollipops and high
blood sugars with patience.

Candy isn’t a treat, it’s life saving.

Success is measured in steady lines and quiet alarms.

What’s normal for us might seem unusual to others.

Type 1 diabetes doesn’t take a day off and neither do I. It lives in my home ..We live, we fight, we hope. Still waiting for the cure the day we call it a memory.
