Another good start for the bees and fruit. Lots of potential, but will Mother Nature cooperate!? Time will tell.

We are busy weeding and fertilizing the blueberries, and pruning the apple and peach trees. All hives came thru the winter very strong and are busy bringing in many different colors of pollen. We tilled up a section of pasture and planted wildflowers, so hoping for an excellent flavor of honey this fall. Stay tuned as the season progresses. - Bob -

The farm has been put to bed for the winter. Honey is currently available in limited quantities. Call or text to check on future availability.

The cooler temperatures that signal that fall is coming have arrived. We also received almost three inches of much needed rain last weekend.

I will be pulling all supers off the bee hives in the next two weeks to start winter preparations. Lots of bees, but the girls did not cap as much harvestable honey as in past summers. Supply will probably be tight, but I will keep the site updated as I pull supers.

Aronia berries are still available for U-Pick at $2.50/pound but will soon be past peak freshness and will start to shrivel. {never heard of an Aronia berry? Google Aronia and you will find a ton of information out there on the health benefits and recipes on how to enjoy this super food} Call or text (402) 450-1668 to secure a pick appointment. Be advised, a previous visitor reported that after they left, they found they had been feasted upon by Chigers, so bring bug spray.

Another bad year for apples due to the prevalence of cedar trees, etc., on neighboring properties (lots of apple cedar rust, scab, etc.). Therefore, we will not be offering apples this year.

Blueberries are in their third week of picking. The early varieties are winding down, while the later ones are now getting ripe. Hot, windy weekend ripened many quickly, and then they fell off/were blown off. Last night and today saw 1.85" of rain, and I couldn't get into the patch. Will try again tomorrow. We will be selling either at the Tecumseh farmers market this Thursday evening (4-7), the Syracuse farmers market Saturday morning (8-11), or both if enough berries are available to pick.

The bees are starting to cap honey in their supers, so it shouldn't be long before honey will be available. I am usually at both the Otoe County Fair (Aug 1-3 this year) in Syracuse, and the Johnson County Fair (Aug 15-17) in Tecumseh.

A new year on the farm is here. Everything blossomed rather heavy this Spring, and for once, there wasn't a cold rain or a freeze while it was happening. The bees have been very happy with all the pollen and nectar they have been able to find. I have honey supers on several hives already and hope to have a banner year. Nature needs to keep sending us rain to make that happen. Now if I can just keep ahead of the weeds, bugs, and apple cedar rust! Stay tuned for updates as blueberry season gets closer. - Bob -

Time for Aronia berry season.

07/03/2024

Well folks, the U-Pick blueberry season is over. Just spot picking here and there for late bloomers. Thanks to all who came to pick berries this year. The bushes are still growing taller each season, and the crops will keep getting larger as well. We keep a listing of folks who want to be on a call/text list each Spring when it is picking time. Just text us at 402.450.1668 and we will add your name. This also applies to fresh, raw honey as well.

I am usually at the Otoe and Johnson County Fairs each summer selling honey in various sized containers. This year might be a little iffy, as I had to split my large hives to prevent swarming, so the girls are a little behind in filling up the honey supers. I will keep you posted as time goes on. - Bob -

The bees are out and about today enjoying the beautiful mid-February day. I have two Red Maple trees that have just started to bloom and they are really humming! This is the start of the major hive expansions as the tree pollen is used to feed the new baby bees that will be bringing in all that golden nectar by early May.

The 2023 honey harvest kicked off this week with 57 pounds of freshly bottled Raw Honey. We are also picking blueberries, and will have both available tomorrow morning at the Syracuse Farmers Market from 8 until 11:30. You can also send a text to (402)450-1668 to schedule a trip out to the farm to pick up some today.

Spring 2023 is in full force on the farm. All the bee hives successfully came through the winter and are going gang busters. There should be five or more NUCs for sale once I verify they have a laying queen.
There were an abundance of blossoms on all of the fruit trees/bushes, other flowering trees, etc, so hopefully that will translate into a bumper crop of Blueberries, Peaches, Apples, Aronia berries, jams, jellies, and raw honey.
Watch this space for further updates as the season progresses.
