As the summer draws to a close and the weather (hopefully) starts to cool down, we’d like to invite everyone to put on their best pair of walking shoes and hit the road!
Toto Dog Training is proud to be partnering with Friends of Animals Rice County to present September Walkathon! Using Wooftrax, an innovative app that tracks your steps, you can log your miles from September 1st to September 30th. The winner with the most miles walked will win a free puzzle toy for their dog.
How does this work? Wooftrax partners with charities across the country and donates a percentage to that charity each time a walk is completed. It’s an easy and healthy way to show your support. Best of all, both the app and the contest are free!
Don’t have a dog? No problem! Wooftrax allows you to take one of their virtual dogs out for some exercise (so there really is no excuse for you not to join)!
Here’s how to participate:
1) Download Wooftrax to your phone.
2) Enter you and your dog’s information (don’t forget to select Friends of Animals as your chosen charity. Only those who have Friends of Animals as their chosen charity will be eligible for the prize.).
3) Search for our specific group: Friends of Animals September 2026 Walkathon.
4) Start walking on September 1st.

With the temperatures in triple digits, it’s vital to make sure your animals are taken care of. Make sure all pets have:
*Access to cold, clean drinking water
* Shade or other cool place away from direct sunlight
* Limited exercise and/or outdoor activity

Are you prepared for a pet owner’s worst nightmare?
According to Forbes.com, animal shelters see a 30% increase in lost and missing pets on and around the Fourth of July. Make sure your pet is easily found if they disappear amidst the festivities by making sure your pet has a collar with an ID tag or is implanted with a microchip with your current information linked to it. Don’t let your cat or dog be a part of the statistic!

A local dog trainer is under fire after being accused of feeding her clients drugs.
“Cookies”, as they are sometimes called, look like ordinary dog treats. But some people are concerned with the effect these treats produce when eaten by their dogs.
“I’ve never seen my dog behave this well”, said a former client. “When the trainer [Alley Rowland] rewarded Rover with these treats, he started minding his manners. I was astounded with the sudden change; it was like magic.”
We caught up with Rowland as she was being escorted into the police station for questioning.
“They’re just treats,” she said as she was placed in handcuffs. “All it is is positive reinforcement. I’ve done nothing wrong.”
