Well! It has been a Merry Christmas at the farm. 8 new babies two sets of triplets and a set of twins.. Ginger was laboring when we transported so she is yet to move .. but 8 total new kids Christmas morning .. once again friends have made all things better .. checking in on Ginger until we can transport . Rick has been building nursing pens all day.

Today was one of those days when you are super Thankful for great friends that choose to make themselves available and go above and beyond to make things happen and run smoothly . Thank you Cody and Rachael; Jordan and Laura, Rachel L and our sons Cody and Connor who lent equipment and also showed up to help . Almost everyone is relocated to new pastures safe and sound .

The photos are not terrific but we have news …. Landsdowne Farm is moving . We have sold our stephenville acreage and purchased a new haven for our flocks and herds between Cameron and Rockdale Texas. We are excited to see what we can accomplish in our new location and looking forward to quiet and peacful pastures for our animals.

Horned melon harvest is upon us. I bought my first Kiwano melon seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed in 2021. Every preceding harvest has come from those original seeds and their predecessors. I usually harvest between 500 - 1200 of these small spiney super fruits every season. They store really well and will usually successfully keep unrefrigerated into the later part of February . The magic of these small fruits is that they are a power pack of nutrients . The also have a mood stabalizing affect . Not becasue they have anything addictive in them but because they are such a pure nutrient dense whole food . They also have a positive effect on gut health, making them an excellent first food choice in the morning and final food choice in the evening . You can purchase them in stores during some seasons but they are very expensive, usually 6.00-9.00 per fruit . They love Texas so growing them is very doable . In January when the lack of sun and continual cold and grey become trying to my soul Horned melons are a consistent part of my diet. If I have accidentally been glutened.. they are the most healing food I can eat. They are the first food I will try after a tummy bug and sometimes the only thing I will eat after tummy trauma. The best way to get them started is to allow a fruit to break down and decompose over the winter. The seeds will remain and germinate in the late spring . The growing season is from late May through first frost and they must be harvested before first frost. I will gladly sell fruits for seeding purposes if anyone is interested .
