Dairy Power Farms

Dairy Power Farms was established in February 2020 by Mark and Bryn Hornbostel of Steeleville, Illinois. The family farm has been dedicated to the co-op since.

The Hornbostel family has been milking for almost a hundred years. Their herd consists of 5 of the 7 dairy breeds--specializing in Brown Swiss. Shiloh Lane Farms Dairy was bought in the early 1900's on the Land Grant Act by Adolf William Hornbostel and his two brothers. Back then, they cared for only enough livestock to support the family. Adolf's son, Jr, bought more dairy cows and they were milk

ing 12 in 1942 when they became a charter patron of the Prairie Farms Co-op. They have always milked Brown Swiss cattle but have kept a few Ayrshires and Holsteins along the way. They began registering their animals in the 1980's and the herd is fully registered today. Jr’s grandson, Mark, is currently owner and herd manager and is working on production and type in his cattle.

We hear it's National Agriculture Day!

Mark and I are so thankful today and every day to have the opportunity to serve our community through farming.

We strongly believe that there is no other field as encouraging and tight-knit as the agricultural industry.

It is hard work, but deep down there is nothing else we would rather be doing! 🥰

This kiddo turned 5 months on New Year's Eve! 🎉 We can't wait to see what his future holds! (Fingers crossed that it has something to do with cows! 🤞🐮)

This little girl made her grand arrival yesterday morning and we are absolutely thrilled! 🎉

She is the first pure-bred Brown Swiss heifer calf we have had in a LONG time.

To say she will be spoiled is an understatement! 😁

*For those wondering, she is a Cadence out of a Fast and Furious. 🤓

Mark and I just started milking on our own in February. It's been a rough year with Covid-19 and we still have a long way to go until we reach our goals, but it's the little things like this acknowledgement that shows us our hard work is paying off.
