Augusta Dog Adoptions (formerly Chains Hurt) was formed in 2006. We are an all volunteer, 501c3 rescue group that takes in and adopts out dogs that are transferred to our organization from local shelters and high-kill pounds throughout Virginia. Dogs are “fostered” by volunteers at their personal residences until an adoption match is made. We provide rehabilitation and veterinary care to all dogs

in our foster program prior to adoption. Augusta Dog Adoptions works closely with the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, which gives us the opportunity to see firsthand where our services are most needed.

FOSPICE HOME NEEDED! YOUR DONATIONS AT WORK!

We are in search of a very special family to take care of our most special dog! Remember Holly! Holly came to us around Christmas time and was in dire need of our help. Her skin and ears healed but we soon found issues with her heart. Holly suffers from dilated cardiomyopathy and an irregular heartbeat. That means she is at high risk for a sudden cardiac event so it's too dangerous for her to be put under to spay. Holly is now on a heart medication to give her the most time and highest quality of life. She is happy, eating well and still gets the backyard zoomies! Holly loves people, other dogs and is good with cats!

We are looking for a special family to care for Holly for the rest of her days. If you are local, we are happy to keep covering the costs of her vet care at her current vet! You just provide the love and comfort to an amazing dog who deserves it so much!

Happy Sunday! Let's take a little break from our busy holiday weekend and bask in the joy of some recent adoption!

Mary Ellen and one of the Walton Boys are lucky pups to have been chosen by their furEVER family!

Senior Abby hit the jackpot when she was picked by a three time ADA adopter who can give her exactly the kind of quiet and care that she craves!

Sadie, Elijah and Cole are a ready-made pack for the adventurous couple who welcomed not one...not two but three homeless dogs into their family! Party at their place!

And Princess....who after many months in our program has found her perfect person if she can respect the resident cat!

Let's send good vibes and positive juju to all of our new pet parents!

Big thanks so our fosters, donors, volunteers and supporters! Doesn't saving lives feel great?!

UPDATE! ADOPTION PENDING! ADOPTION PIC IN COMMENTS!

We have done all we can for Princess and are begging for a happy ending for her! Her story is hearbreaking! We were so proud to save her but after many months in our care...no one wants her and she needs a place to go! 😥

We get intake requests that we cannot help every day but this girl hit us hard! Princess lost both of her elderly owners. At a time that must have been already so stressful to her, the family took her to a crowded, rural, overwhelmed shelter where she was terrifed and looked down the road expecting someone to come back for her.
When staff noticed a mass on her back leg and blood in her urine, they knew the chances of her making it out alive were slim. They told us that animals at this shelter don't go to the vet for medical care; they go for euthanasia. So many shelters are overwhelmed right now and even healthy dogs are being euthanized for space.
I don't know why Princess' story hit me so hard but I just started crying. It's just something about the older dogs who lose their families that breaks my heart. Thank goodness for our foster families! One of our best offered to save Princess without hesitation!

Princess was treated for a terrible urinary tract infection and had surgery to remove the mass. Unfortunately, the surgery site did not heal well because of it's location. Princess had to go back to the vet many times to get it resutured and spent weeks in a cone!

Princess is a kind dog who is a little nervous at times and loves the security of her crate. She was good with the other dogs in her foster home when she first arrived but isn't anymore. She wants all the attention for herself and has stared to snap at other dogs creating an unsafe environment. Therefore, we need to find her an adopter NOW. Princess is used to a quiet home with undivided attention. She wants to be your one and only and still has so much love to give. Princess is around 7-8 years old and weighs about 30 pounds. Let's find a family who will truly treasure this precious girl! Princess' adoption fee will be WAIVED for a loving family who can take great care of her for the rest of her life.
