DECEMBER SHOW INFO!
From show organizer: There has been a lot of planning happening behind the scenes, but we waited a little to put out our entry forms and vendor sign up. We are combining our event with a cat show and we have a. lot of great things planned. There will be some amazing vendors from both show worlds coming, so this is a show you will definitely want to attend. Have no fear about space though as we have an old Sears store in a mall with about 100,000 square feet on the group floor!
Hotel links will be posted separately. They are all listed under Tabby Tales Cat Club and we currently have three hotels with blocks. All three are just minutes from the mall/show location.

Happy holidays from the PFRA and all the shelter kids!
It’s been raining ferrets this week - we still have Butters and Princess who are ready to go 🙂 but we also have 3 young pairs coming this week! If interested in a pair (pictures and descriptions coming soon!), please PM us and I'll send you an application. They will quarantine until ADV test results come back and then vetted and vaccines start. So should be ready to go in about 3-4 weeks 🙂 some pics to peak your interest

Due to the COVID-19 issue, the shelter is physically closed to adoptions until further notice. We will still remain open to emergency surrenders - please contact us via email for instructions or with any questions. Thank you and stay safe!
UPDATE: TAKEN! Thanks everyone!
Anyone in need of a gently used cage? Free to a good hime. PM me within 36 hours or its going in the dumpster.
Happy New Year from the kids at the PFRA!
Meet Captain & Calypso! This pair of 1 year old kids are absolute sweethearts. Currently in quarantine, they will be available for adoption after the holidays as they need to be vaccinated, as well. If interested in adopting, drop me a PM or an email.
UPDATE: STILL AVAILABLE - NOW PART OF A PAIR WITH ROSY
Meet Finley, a sassy 8 month old black roan mitt jill. She had to be surrendered due to an aggressive dog situation. She loves everyone but not everyone loved her 😞 she is used to free roaming and hanging with her family. Finley will be available for adoption after her quarantine, ADV testing and vaccines are done (about 30 days). If you are interested in adopting this sweetheart, drop me a PM for an adoption application.
UPDATE: STILL AVAILABLE - NOW PART OF A PAIR WITH FINLEY
Meet Rosy, she is a sweet champagne girl who is 2.5 years old. Her family was moving and were not allowed to bring her. She will be available once her adv test comes back and she is up to date on her vaccines. We are not sure if she likes other ferrets yet but we’ll find out once she’s out of quarantine. Please drop me a PM if you are interested in adoption.

UPDATE: they were adopted - yay!!!
These guys came in during a busy period and I forgot to post them 🙂 meet Ollie, Xeva & Daisy. They are a trio that just turned 3yo on 8/16/16. Sweet as pie and would be a great set of first ferrets or for a family with children. They do NOT get along with other ferrets so need to be the only ferrets in the home or have separate run times. If you are interested in adopting them, please drop me a PM for an application. ETA: Xeva had emergency surgery for a huge bladder stone but came thru it fine. They will be available for adoption as soon as she has the all clear from the vet (probably end of August).
UPDATE: Kelly has been adopted, but ShaSha & Sherry STILL need a home. These boys are sweethearts, but do NOT get along with other ferrets. If interested, please drop me a PM!
******* Meet ShaSha (chocolate), Sherry (dark nose DEW) and Kelly (pink nose DEW) - this trio came to us when the Owner found they could not take them back to their country after graduation. They are going to be 3,4 & 4 this fall. They are lovely kids who will be available for adoption at the end of July. They are ADV negative & up to date on vaccinations. All blood glucoses are normal and coats look good. If interested in adopting them, please drop us an email or PM. Thanks!
UPDATE: SHE'S ADOPTED!
Say hello to Alexis, our newest surrender 🙂 she is a sweet 2yo sable jill who will be available for adoption after July 15th. If interested in adopting her, please send email or PM us for an adoption application. I will have more details about her once we get to know her.
The 2018 Ferret of the Year awards banquet is this Friday and some PFRA kids have done super well - congrats Rae, Ottis, Ben & Freya 🙂 Shelter kids can totally be show ferrets!
Oliver went to his new home today! Thank you, Alicia 😄
Happy Holidays from the PFRA!
Pinecone and Remus got a home - yay! Thank you for giving these boys a great home, Ashley :)
Teddy, Soup & Crackers are an older trio (they lost their 4th member, 7yo Star, to renal failure after coming into the shelter). These guys are a sweet group of ~5 yo kids who need an experienced foster home to make their final years comfortable and happy. Teddy and Soup have had some weight loss since coming to us. Teddy also may be adrenal, so we'll be treating him for that. Crackers came to us with a mouth abscess that has healed beautifully and a swollen vulva that has gone down after being given a des implant. So typical health issues for older kids :) If interested in fostering them, please drop me a PM. Must be able to bring them to the shelter vet (Boalsburg Animal Wellness) for care and must be experienced with older ferrets and their health issues.
Remus & Pine Cone are a pair of 10 month old boys that need a home. Surrendered due to a housing issue, these boys are fun loving, playful, energetic and really need a home that can give them the attention they need. They are ADV negative and UTD on vaccines, so send in your applications - they'd love to have a home in time for the holidays :)
The shelter has taken in quite a few kids recently, so if anyone hasn't tried Petflow, yet, and would like a $10 off coupon (which also gives the shelter a $10 off coupon), please feel free to use our link. Thank you!

Come on our and have some fun!
Registration is now live for our Fall Ferret Frolic to be held in Coatesville, PA on September 15.
There is a block of rooms available at the Residence Inn that is about 20 minutes northeast of the show hall. The block will be held until August 20 and is under Spring Fling 2018 (the block was for both 2018 shows). Let me know if there are any issues with booking. This is for standard suites at $112 per night and no pet fee for ferrets traveling to the show.

Meet Cocoa - he is a 3 year old male and sweet as can be. He’s rarely been out of the cage for the last 3 years, but he doesn’t let it get him down. He is laid back and loves to cuddle 🙂 as you can see from his pictures he loves a comfy bed. He is ADV negative and will be available after his vaccines are done. So mid-September.
UPDATE: Angel has a home!
Meet Angel - she was left in a condemned apt with two kitty friends - but don’t worry, all are safe now! She is 6mo and adorable - she has an adoption pending already and will be available as soon as her vaccines are finished (she is also ADV negative). Yay for Angel!
UPDATE: Freddie has a home!
Meet Freddie Mercury! He was left in an apartment when the owner left the country 😞 thankfully he’s fine and he’s such a sweetheart. He’s around a year old, ADV negative and will be available for adoption as soon as his last CD shot is given - so beginning of September I’d love for him to be going to a new home 🙂 ETA: He gets along well with other non-aggressive ferrets, too. He and Buster play and the girls curl up with him to nap.
We’ve had a little rush on intakes, so I’ll be posting pics and descriptions here (and updating petfinder hopefully this weekend. We have even more kids slated to come in so if you’re thinking of adopting, now would be a great time 🙂 Nina & Dutchess, as well as Buster & Midge, still need homes, too.
So I’ve been wanting to do something like this for awhile and finally did it - the kids are loving it! Get some black tubing from Lowes and zip ties to hold them to the cage and voila 🙂 for less angles, instead of going straight down the side of the cage, go down the back at a less steep angle so it’s an easier climb. But it’s a great way to build muscle 🙂 thanks to Staci for the idea
Meet Nina & Dutch(ess) - 2 young sable jills that came to the shelter today. Owner had been told they were males (Nino & Dutch). They will be adv tested tomorrow and started on vaccines. They will be available for adoption in 3-4 weeks. If interested, drop me a PM and we’ll get you an application.

All 6 new shelter residents are getting along wonderfully! Mumbo (DEW jill), Jumbo (chocolate roan hob), Smokey (sable hob), Bandit (bald hob), Reggie (chocolate Jill) & Otto (sable roan hob). All are ADV negative and in the process of getting vaccinated. They will be available for adoption in 3 weeks. Please drop us a line if you are interested in anyone :)
Formerly known as The Central PA Ferret Rescue, I took over in June of 1997 for the old director when she moved to southeastern PA. We take in stray and unwanted ferrets, get them vetted, on a healthy diet and give them love until we find them a new, permanent home.
You can see pictures and descriptions of available ferrets on our Petfinder page (search for ferrets in State College, PA). Drop me an email if you are interested in an adoption application :)
