RECALL ALERT: American Regent, Inc. Animal Health is conducting a nationwide recall of two lots (25011 and 3369) of Adequan® Canine Injection (for dogs), 100 mg/mL 5mL multi-dose vials and two lots (24416 and 25265P) of Adequan® i.m. Injection (for horses), 500mg/5 mL single-dose 5mL vials to the consumer level. So far at this point in July, there have been 11 cases of rabies year-to-date in Centre County. You can use this dashboard link to stay up to date.
PLEASE keep your pets' rabies vaccine up to date! YES, even if you have an indoor cat, it is PA state law, and indoor cats do accidently get outside, and they love to hunt rabies vector species such as bats!

One of our doggie patients recently ingested a part of a migraine gel cooling cap, requiring several days at the local ER where he was treated for tremors and seizures.

There is no antidote.

Apparently this is a newer recognized toxin, and sadly is in Migrane Gel Caps marked as "non-toxic"! Since this is NOT the case ( as I recently learned) I wanted to share with pet owners, as many humans suffer from migraine.

The summer heat wave has finally hit after all the mild weather! Here are some tips for preventing heat stroke and other summer dangers. Never leave your dog in the car without air conditioning, watch for excessive panting, drooling, and changes in gum color. Also-remember that asphalt absorbs heat and can become dangerously hot, easily reaching 135°F on an 86°F day. At 125°F, a dog’s sensitive paw pads can burn in just 60 seconds.
