Raising dogs and puppies, long post but please read!
As most of you know im an up and coming breeder. But I want to take a moment and explain why I started breeding. Truly the idea started because I got lucky and ended up getting two of the most special, smart amazing family farm dogs ive ever owned. There will never ever be another Jarick and Helmi. But then I Started doing research about breeding and educating myself of the dos and donts because in all honesty Australian Sheperds or any breed that carries the Merle gene are some of the most dangerous dogs to breed if your not careful you can breed a double Merle and end up with deff or blind or both in your pups. This in most cases is a death sentence to a pup, but for some they are lucky and find homes. However there are so many other things outside of a breeders control that can go wrong. Anyone who is following my page knows I just had my second litter between Jarick and Helmi and this will be Helmi's last litter not because she's not a good momma she's a great momma but because she is five going on six years old, I want her golden years to be spent in luxury Jarick once or twice more will have the opportunity to be a father again. But in this litter i have a puppy failing to thrive. On the outside she is normal she scoots around like everyone has a good suckle reflex no cleft, she is going to my vet regularly to be looked at to make sure she's improving. She is a week and two days old and as of her weight yesterday she is still the same weight she was when she was born, however she eats like a horse so long as I feed her every two hrs. Because while she hasn't grown her siblings have and they are almost 3 times her size, meaning no matter how hard she tries she can't get to mama's milk. She is still to small to do any tests to determine what mught be the cause of her lack of growth. My vet suspects she is a stunt puppy. He believes she was born with a birth defect in regards to her liver. This is not an issue that she inherited from her parents this is something that happened to her during development or during birth, to cause her not to grow, or to grow at a very very slow rate. So every two hrs I supplement feed her and then mamma gets up on the bed with us and I watch over them both as I make sure puppy gets to suckel on mom until she's full. I do this every two hrs on top of Homeschooling my kids, running a business, being a team manager for my daughters softball team being a wife a mom and everything in between. This is what sets me and other breeders like me apart from the rest, our determination to improve and grow the breed and endure latnight feedings so every single one of our puppies survive and make it into good homes. SO Next time you feel the need to call me a back yard breeder at 2am read this post and tell me if you can do what I do. YES I still have much to learn, and I WILL learn it. However in the meantime Little Lainy Wilson is currently no longer available for perches. Until she is strong enough for testing to make sure she's healthy or to figure out what she has or dosent have i can't knowingly in good faith sell a puppy to a buyer who might have serious health problems. But I will continue to keep yall up to date on her progress. Please pray for little Lainey.
