Local students have transformed the Heritage Park Skatepark into an awe inspiring work of art! Last weekend, some of Stanwood’s most talented young artists rolled up their sleeves, picked up paintbrushes, and created a collection of locally inspired murals.

What began as a city-led effort to encourage public art and reduce tagging quickly grew into an exciting community collaboration, one that gave students the chance to leave their mark on the very town they call home.

The City would like to thank Meyer Arts Center, Stanwood-Camano School District, participating students, and local artists for helping bring this project to life. This is one of many public art initiatives underway to help create a bright, vibrant, and welcoming city. Today, the Heritage Park Skatepark is more than a place to play. It is a reflection of the small town spirit, creativity, and connection that makes Stanwood such a special place to live.

The City is taking steps to celebrate, recognize and preserve Stanwood's history with the creation of a new Historic Preservation Commission! We are now seeking residents to serve on the Commission to help maintain a local historic inventory, promote awareness of Stanwood's history and advise City leaders on preservation-related matters.

🗓️ Applications are due by June 21, 2026 and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Find the application link in the comments.

If you live within Stanwood city limits and have a passion for local history, architecture, preservation and planning we encourage you to apply.

The Historic Preservation Program is one of many efforts the City is undertaking to preserve the small-town character, charm and history that makes Stanwood such a special place to call home.

The City of Stanwood is taking proactive steps to address significant winter storm damage to the Skagit Bay D**e, located west of Stanwood. Mayor Roberts recently signed an emergency declaration to accelerate emergency repairs to the most damaged section of the levee as early as this summer, pending permit approval. The century-old D**e separates the City of Stanwood and surrounding farmland from the Puget Sound and plays a critical role in protecting homes, businesses and infrastructure. See the link in our comments for the full story and stay tuned for project updates.
