Rattlesnake season is HERE! 🐍 With the warm spring we’ve been having, rattlesnakes may be out earlier than usual this year. Have you seen any yet? Drop your sightings below to help keep others aware!
Rattlesnake Aversion Training is back in Mountainair, NM next month! With over 20 years of experience and thousands of dogs trained, K-9 Rattlesnake Aversion Training by Natural Solutions is the nation's leader in professional rattlesnake aversion! "With our process, we have successfully trained dogs as large as Mastiffs and Great Danes, to as small as Teacup Maltese and Chihuahuas. We generally recommend dogs be at least 6 months old prior to training so that they are developmentally mature enough to make the correct associations."
This training uses live, safely muzzled rattlesnakes in a controlled setting and teaches dogs to recognize snakes by sight 👀, smell 👃, and sound👂! The training method is tailored to each dog using a remote training collar to provide a low-level stimulation that your dog will associate with the rattlesnake. "Both your dog's physical safety and also mental well-being are TOP priority."
Here are some tips to protect your dog(s) while out walking:
🐾 Use a leash on walks, especially in brushy or rocky areas
🐾 Avoid letting them sniff into holes, woodpiles, or tall grass
🐾 Stick to well-traveled trails when possible (& stay on trail)
🐾 Add an extra layer of protection by signing up for an aversion clinic
AND, if you encounter a rattlesnake, remember to:
⚠️ Stay calm and keep your distance
⚠️ Don't try to handle or harm it
⚠️ Slowly back away and give it space to escape (remember, this is their home too)
⚠️ Keep your dog close to you and under control
