One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is, “Groomers just love shaving doodles.” I promise you… we don’t! ❤️

Doodles have a very dense, high-maintenance coat. Even though they may look fluffy and soft on the outside, their coat can become tightly matted underneath before you even realize it’s happening. A quick brush over the top isn’t enough. They need to be brushed all the way down to the skin using the proper tools and technique to prevent painful mats from forming.

When a doodle comes to us severely matted, shaving is often the kindest and safest option. Trying to brush out tight matting is extremely painful, can cause bruising, and puts a lot of unnecessary stress on your dog. We will always choose what’s in the best interest of your pet’s comfort and health.

We LOVE seeing doodles leave with their long fluffy cuts. But keeping that look is truly a team effort between you and your groomer. Regular brushing at home, routine grooming appointments, and the right brushes and combs make all the difference.

If you’re not sure whether you’re brushing correctly, just ask us! We’d be more than happy to show you the proper technique and recommend the best tools for your pup. Our goal isn’t to shave doodles… it’s to keep them healthy, comfortable, and looking their absolute best. 🐾💕
