Tater girl is rockin’ and rollin
We’ve moved to placing the bumper on the ground now.
No rush, no shortcuts baby steps make big dogs. šŸ’ŖšŸ¦†

12/19/2025

With TaTer, I’m letting her think, problem-solve, and own the behavior. Each rep is built one bite at a time engaging with the object, choosing to interact, choosing to bring value to the task.

You’ll see moments of hesitation.
You’ll see her struggle a little.
And that’s exactly where learning lives.

I’m not worried about speed.
I’m not worried about perfection.
I’m focused on clarity, confidence, and commitment.

When dogs learn how to learn, the finished retrieve becomes powerful and reliable later especially when pressure gets added down the road. This foundation creates dogs that don’t quit, don’t shut down, and don’t need constant help.

Let them work.
Let them struggle.
Let them succeed on their own.

šŸ“¹ Full video shows the entire process as it unfolds real progress, real thinking, real growth.

Even when we make mistakes, that’s part of the process. I wasn’t quick enough on this rep she had a nice grab right off the bat and I missed it. That caused a little uncertainty about what the criteria was, and that’s okay.

What I like is you can already see the chomping starting to fade. Clarity is coming, and she’s figuring it out one rep at a time

Little Tater girl is coming along nicely šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

Full video shows her making progress each day with free shaping fetch. No rushing, no shortcuts just letting her think, problem solve, and build real understanding.

This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about clarity, confidence, and watching the light bulb turn on.

One rep at a time. One day at a time.
She’s getting it.

12/14/2025

Another day, more progress in her fetch work.
No rushing, no pressure early just clarity, confidence, and letting her learn how to think through the task.

Progress doesn’t happen overnight, it happens one good rep at a time.
She’s moving in the right direction šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

This entire video shows the process not perfection. You’ll see her struggle early, and you’ll see it get better by the end.

This is not a race. I’m not chasing speed or polish. I’m looking for clarity, understanding, and getting her to dig deep and problem-solve on her own.

That ability plays a huge role in the field. When a dog puts themselves in a tough spot, there isn’t always a handler or bird thrower to save them. They have to think, stay composed, and figure it out.

Let them struggle.
Let them learn.
That’s how real confidence is built.

This is how I start fetch I love when I can do it with young pup.
Free shaping isn’t about perfection.
It’s about clarity, problem-solving, and letting the dog learn how to learn.

First steps to this
- dog looks at bumper mark /pay
- dog comes close to bumper mark/pay
- dog touches bumper mark/pay
Do you see where I’m going with this, now we are here..

Let them struggle. šŸ’Ŗ

I see too many people step in too soon handling or calling for help from the bird thrower the second a dog starts to hunt or get out of area.

But here’s the thing…

Dog made it out to the area šŸ¦†
Yes, she had a big hunt, that’s okay, she’s still learning šŸ¦†
She never gave up, never panicked, and stayed in the game šŸ¦†

That’s growth. That’s experience. That’s where confidence is built.

Don’t rob your dog of the lesson by stepping in too soon. Let them figure it out that’s how great dogs are made. šŸ”„

Proofing with different objects today.
I’m not looking for perfection right now I’m looking for clarity and understanding in what I’m asking her to do. When you start introducing new items and placing them in spots the dog doesn’t naturally want to pick them up from, you’re going to get refusals. That’s part of the process.
Refusals show you exactly where the holes are so you can fix them. The goal here is to build confidence, problem solving, and understanding, not speed or polish. One step at a time, keep the picture clear, and the dog will put it together. 1% better everyday that’s all we can ask for.
