☀️🐶🐱 Sizzlin’ Summer Pet Trivia! 🐾💦

Let’s have some fun in the sun with these cool facts about our furry friends and how they handle the heat:

🌞 True or False?
Dogs and cats sweat through their skin.
❌ False! They mainly cool off by panting and sweating through their paws!

🍦 Did you know?
Many dogs (and some cats!) love frozen treats in the summer—but avoid giving them real ice cream. Try pet-safe frozen yogurt or blended fruit pops instead!

🏖️ Trivia Time!
What is one breed of dog that is known for being a great swimmer and even has webbed feet?
👉 Answer: The Labrador Retriever!

😺 Cat Fact!
While cats don’t usually love water, some breeds like Turkish Vans are known as the “swimming cat” and will take a dip to cool off!

🔥 Hot Tip:
Pavement can reach over 130°F in the sun—if it’s too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for paws!

🎉 Drop your score in the comments if you guessed them all right, and share your pet’s favorite summer activity below! 🐾🍉

🎆🐾 4th of July Safety Tips for Pets
Firework anxiety is not the only risk to pets during the 4th of July. Keeping pets away from human food and drinks and other potentially dangerous debris such as glowsticks, bug repellent products, plastic decorations, and other hazards.

Here’s how you can help keep animals safe this Independence Day:

✅ Make sure pets have ID tags & up-to-date microchip info
✅ Keep pets indoors during fireworks - loud sounds can cause panic and escapes
✅ Avoid giving pets table scraps, especially toxic foods
✅ Make sure animals have shade and fresh water
✅ After the festivities, check your yard for leftover debris or fireworks
✅ Never leave pets in hot cars, even briefly
✅ If you’re traveling, consider a trusted pet sitter or boarding option

Most importantly, contact your veterinarian with any concerns you have about your pet during holiday celebrations. Learn more from the AVMA here: https://www.avma.org/resources/pet-owners/petcare/july-4-safety

🎆🐾 Fireworks & Pets: Keep Them Safe This 4th of July 🐾🎆

While fireworks light up the sky for us, they can be downright terrifying for our pets. In fact, more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other night of the year, frightened by the sudden noise and lights.
Here are a few ways to help keep your pets calm and safe this holiday:

--Leave pets at home if you're going out to watch fireworks – their sensitive hearing means they’ll prefer the peace and quiet.
--Don’t leave pets outside in the evening or overnight
--Make sure your pets are wearing up-to-date ID tags
--Keep your dog on a leash or in a securely fenced yard. Even well-trained dogs may panic and run.

About half of all pets experience anxiety from loud noises like fireworks and thunder. Set up a safe space inside your home (like a quiet bedroom or bathroom) and help ease their stress with soft music or white noise, a long-lasting treat or toy, and a calm, reassuring voice.

Let’s make sure the holiday is fun and safe for every member of the family – pets included!

Pet owners, take notice! We’re looking at record high temps over the next few days, and many of our pets will be at risk of deadly heatstroke! ☀️🌡️

🐾Any dog can get heatstroke, but if any of the following factors apply to your dog, they are at higher risk:
-Overweight
-Brachycephalic (short-nosed like pugs, bulldogs)
-Long/thick fur
-Seniors or young puppies
-Large/giant breeds
-Pre-existing medical conditions (especially cardiac or respiratory problems)

Symptoms of heatstroke include: rapid breathing (hyperventilation), red gums/tongue, excessive or frothy drool, vomiting/diarrhea, tremors, loss of balance, and collapse. Pets with these signs should go to the closest ER immediately - heatstroke is FATAL if not treated. For more information, visit https://www.pieperveterinary.com/blog/preventing-heatstroke/

Please be careful this week - provide lots of shade and water, limit exercise to short outings at dawn and dusk, and DO NOT leave your dog in your car! Being informed and knowing the signs is the best way to keep your pets healthy. Stay safe! 🐶
