Fall harvest is here — and that means carrots are in season! Not only are they a crunchy, low-calorie snack your pup will love, but they also pack some powerful health benefits. 🥕🥕

Carrots contain polyacetylenes, which help detoxify cancer-causing substances — like mold (aflatoxins) — that pets may encounter. What is the SHED–X Advantage Club?

While doing a SHED-X occasionally for your dog is helpful for removing lots of loose hair from your dog’s coat, the best results are seen with a visit every 4-6 weeks. Dogs are constantly shedding and have15,000 to 100,000 hairs per square inch. Because of this, to experience the full effect you should have a SHED-X done frequently.

Our SHED-X Advantage Club is an annual membership that allows you to receive unlimited SHED-X Treatments for one year with the purchase of a bath or groom. The annual fee is based on your pet’s breed and coat type. You can come in as many times a year as you want for SHED-X treatments, and all you need to pay for is the bath or groom. For August’s Pet Memorial Fund Donation, Kennelwood’s Pet Matchmaker, Patty, presented a donation to the Chillicothe Correctional Center’s Puppies for Parole Program in Chillicothe, Missouri. We are proud to support a program that not only saves the lives of rescue dogs but also transforms the lives of people.

Puppies for Parole is a statewide program that partners with local animal shelters and Missouri Department of Corrections facilities, including the Chillicothe Correctional Center and Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron. Through this unique initiative, selected residents in Missouri prisons become trainers to shelter dogs, teaching them basic obedience skills and socialization to increase their chances of adoption.

Since its inception in 2010, over 7,000 dogs have completed the program and been adopted into loving homes. But the impact goes far beyond that. The program provides resident handlers with valuable skills through a U.S. Department of Labor-certified apprenticeship in animal handling, empowering them with meaningful training, improving rehabilitation and reentry success, and positively affecting the overall environment within the facilities.

Puppies for Parole is funded entirely through private donations and fundraising efforts within each institution, with no general revenue used. You can learn more and view adoptable dogs at https://doc.mo.gov/programs/puppies-parole.

Each month, Patty, the Pet Matchmaker, presents Kennelwood's Pet Memorial Fund Donation to a deserving rescue or animal-focused program in our region. These donations are made in memory of the beloved pets our clients have lost. Through these contributions, their memory lives on, helping pets in need and the people who care for them.
