🐾 Service Dogs Are Working Dogs — Please Don’t Distract Them! 🐾

We all love dogs, and it’s only natural to want to say hello when we see one out in public. But when you see a service dog, the best thing you can do is pretend the dog isn’t there! ❤️

Service dogs aren’t just companions. They are highly trained to perform important tasks for people with disabilities. Distracting them, even with the best intentions, can interfere with their ability to do their job and potentially put their handler at risk.

🚫 Please remember:

* Don’t pet or touch a service dog.
* Don’t talk to the dog, call its name, whistle, or make kissing noises.
* Don’t make eye contact or try to get the dog’s attention.
* Don’t offer treats or food.
* Don’t allow your own dog to approach or greet a working service dog.
* Don’t take pictures or videos without the handler’s permission.

🐕‍🦺 Even if the dog looks relaxed or isn’t actively performing a task, it may still be working.

Service dogs can be trained to alert their handlers to medical emergencies, guide people with visual impairments, assist with mobility, and perform many other lifesaving tasks.

❤️ The kindest way to show your appreciation for a service dog is to respect its space and allow it to focus on its handler.

And remember, not all disabilities are visible, and not all service dogs wear vests!

A little awareness and respect can make a big difference. 🐾

Please share to help spread awareness!
