Our sweet Gidget has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She went very peacefully lying in my arms. Sadly, she developed gastric cancer and at 15 years old there was not much that could be done. This little lady raised her own 2 litters and then helped raise and instill proper canine manners in all the puppies we rescued as well as bred. She was the best momma dog and grandma dog ever. She was also a crazy talker, sweet snuggler, and my best friend. Diesel was depressed for a few days but he's now enjoying his only child status. I miss my girl but she had a very long healthy life with a gentle loving goodbye. I couldn't ask for better 💕

Whew. I wanted to update everyone on the outcome of the NH House Bill 1102-FN that I posted about below.
The bill was introduced and went through the usual process but was ultimately "laid on table." This occurred in session on 3/28/24.

I'm happy about this for all the good, responsible breeders of beloved flat faced breeds which include not only our French Bulldogs but also boxers, bulldogs, pugs, shih tzus, cavaliers, plus 11 other breeds!!
At the same time I do wish there was a way to stop the insane breeding of sick, deformed, "exotic" frenchies by the breeders out there that are destroying our breed and creating the urge for putting laws like these in place.

People aren't seeing enough of beautiful french bulldogs like my Gidget who will be 15 years old in August. She's been a healthy little girl with fairly minor issues all her life. The worst problem for her is her current glaucoma. But gosh she's ancient and we all have old age problems, right?

Anyway, good news for now. So pictures of my girl and I hope you all are doing well. Kisses to all the babies ❤️💙❤️💙

Haven't posted in a while but this one is important!!!
This bill will be introduced in NH in January and all lovers and breeders of brachycephalic dogs need to write their representatives to let them know they DO NOT support this legislation!
"Good Afternoon,
The American Kennel Club (AKC) is contacting you as Presidents, Secretaries and Legislative Liaisons of Brachycephalic Parent Breeds Clubs who are key stakeholders in HB 1102, a troublesome New Hampshire (NH) bill being introduced January 3, 2024. This is follow-up to a December 1 AKC alert sent to all parent club legislative liaisons.
The bill seeks to describe brachycephaly as a “birth deformity that causes suffering” and criminalize the sale and breeding of both brachycephalic and any other dog that could be claimed to have a birth deformity. Violators could be found guilty of a misdemeanor for a first offense, and of a class B felony for a second or subsequent offense.
AKC recognizes 16 different brachycephalic breeds; and believes that breeding programs should be undertaken responsibly for the purpose of preserving breed characteristics and producing healthy, well-socialized purebred puppies. Responsible breeders are expected to give careful consideration to health issues, temperament, and genetic screening, as well as to the individual care and placement of puppies in responsible homes. We support and promote these and other responsible breeding practices through breeders’ education programs, and commend those who offer similar guidance.
Click here to read AKC’s full position statement on responsible breeding practices.
The NH legislative session begins in earnest in January, with committees scheduling public hearings starting then. AKC and the New Hampshire Dog Owners of the Granite State (NH DOGS) will aggressively work against this overt legislative attempt to control breed type. Education and scientific discussion of thoughtful ways to address health issues within a breed in a manner that protects and preserves the essence of that breed should take priority over any onerous legislative declaration.
Together, Angela Ferrari, President, NH DOGS at [email protected], and I, Stacey Ober, as AKC’s New England Regional Manager of Government Relations at [email protected], will be coordinating strategy and action steps. We will be sending future emails to you on what you can do, and when to act in order to defeat this problematic legislation.
Before January 3, 2024, we respectfully request that you 1) identify all your club members residing in NH and, 2) confirm their current contact information by sharing the December 1 alert with them.
We’ll be in touch soon….

Our sweet matriach, Gidget, is now 14 plus years old. She was diagnosed with glaucoma this week after a month of battling a severe corneal abrasion. Corneal abrasions and the infection that goes hand in hand are not uncommon in frenchies due their flat faces and large, prominent eyes. However, what I learned this week is the uncommon result of such a thing can be glaucoma. Poor Gidget had a mild swelling of her eye 2 weeks in that was chalked up to the infection. It began to very slowly increase until all of a sudden it it looked like that eye was going to pop out of her head. That part appeared literally overnight. Now we had an emergency on her hands and we were staying in Portsmouth. Thankfully, Dr Nicole at Lovewell saw us right away and sent us to Port City Emergency Hospital. Dr Clode, the opthomalogist there saw us right away and got her diagnosed and started on medication immediately. Both of these vets were fantastic and I cannot say enough good things about Port City!!!

So in closing, our old girl is feeling better and will be followed closely by her opthomalogist, Dr Colitz, in Florida when we return. She's doing much better and her headache is significantly less...whew.

4 1/2 months old now. This chunky monkey is working on his obedience skills...knows sit, down, rollover, shake hands, stay (working on distance and duration), spin around, and is doing fairly well with loose leash walking. Hard work for a baby!

Diesel has settled in well. Gidget is teaching him some manners, thankfully. He's already housebroken at just 14 weeks of age. And his antics have brightened up our household after having lost both Rocky and Jezebel this past summer.
