Quick break from dog training content for something completely self-serving.

Felicia made a new design.

I laughed. She laughed.

That seemed like a good enough reason to throw it on the Ember Eye page and pretend this is work-related.

Is it educational?

Not even a little.

Is it dog-related?

Technically.

Am I using my business page to show off my wife's work?

Absolutely.

Anyway, I thought some of you would get a kick out of it.

A client told me something recently that made me laugh.

They'd been taking their dog to another training class. First off, I love hearing that. Seriously. Train with me. Train with somebody else. Train with your neighbor's weird uncle if he's actually helping your dog. I care way more about the dog getting trained than I do about being the only person you ever work with.

Anyway, they came back and told me the class felt easy.

Now before anybody gets their pitchforks out, no, that's not because the instructor wasn't good. I'm sure they were. And it's not because the exercises were bad. The exercises were teaching exactly what they were supposed to teach.

The difference was that their dog was ready.

Instead of spending the entire class having an existential crisis about another dog existing twenty feet away, their dog could actually focus on the lesson.

Imagine that.

When your dog isn't busy yelling at life, learning gets a lot easier.

And honestly, that's kind of the point.

I want training to be harder than normal life.

I want dogs that can work around barking dogs, moving people, opening doors, dropped food, excited kids, squirrels with questionable intentions, and whatever other nonsense the universe decides to throw at us that day.

Because dogs are capable of so much more than we usually expect from them.

And before anybody thinks I'm claiming to be the high priest of dog training, I have friends who make me look lazy.

One in particular trains her dogs around enough chaos to make my brain short-circuit. Kids running around with toys and bikes, kittens, other dogs, barbecue fired up, noise everywhere, distractions stacked on distractions. Watching her work is a good reminder that there's always another level if you're willing to put in the effort.

That's one of my favorite things about dog training.

Every time you think you've found the ceiling, somebody walks by carrying a ladder.

The goal isn't perfection.

The goal is capability.

I want dogs that can walk through the world with confidence because we've already practiced things that were harder than what real life is likely to throw at them.

Train for the test, and you might pass.

Train for something harder, and the test feels easy.

🚨 Looking for 8 Dogs 🚨

A while back, I ran a day training program.

The dogs did great.

The humans... not so much. And honestly, that's on me.

The biggest lesson I learned is that training doesn't magically transfer from trainer to owner. Your dog can learn to sit, down, heel, place, recall, and leave it for me all day long, but if you never understand how practice, it won't matter when the leash is in your hands.

So we're bringing Day Training back, but with a much bigger focus on owner education and follow-through.

🐾 6 Week Program
🐾 Fridays Only
🐾 Drop-Off: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM
🐾 Pick-Up: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
🐾 $360 Total

This is not daycare.

Over six weeks, we'll work on:

✅ Recall
✅ Leave It
✅ Sit
✅ Down
✅ Place Bed
✅ Heel
✅ Working Around Distractions
✅ Real-World Manners

Every time you pick up your dog, you'll get a short lesson on exactly what we worked on that day.

Every week, you'll receive a video of your dog performing the skills, along with instructions on how to get the same results at home.

No guessing.

No wondering what happened during training.

No "my dog only listens to the trainer."

Just clear communication, simple homework, and steady progress.

This program is designed for dogs that need a solid foundation, whether they're young, wild, distracted, or just a little rough around the edges.

Maybe your dog drags you down the sidewalk.

Maybe they ignore you when something interesting appears.

Maybe they think every distraction is more important than you.

Let's fix that.

I'm looking for 8 dogs for the first group to kick off.

One day a week.

Six weeks.

You bring the dog to our Springfield training barn, we'll put in the work, and then show you how to get the same results at home.

A better dog, and the skills to keep it that way.

⚠️ Fair warning: your dog won't be the only one getting homework at pickup time.

Send me a message if you'd like one of the eight spots.

Hobbes went out into the world to practice the radical concept of “maybe strangers don’t need to be barked at.” Turns out underneath all that sass is a very good boy who’s learning that chilling out in public can actually be pretty fun.

Thank you Duluth Trading Company employees for being so supportive and kind with this sasshole while we visited.
