Just Fur Pets made it through the pandemic, though we suffered financial losses in 2020 and 2021.
More recently, staffing for daycare and retail areas has become a significant challenge.  A decade-long groomer shortage has left us with only a part-time groomer.  We’ve also experienced rising costs, a drop in dog daycare participation, and record lows for boarding reservations this summer.  These challenges have prompted me to close Just Fur Pets to reduce further financial losses.
After over 8 years of owning and operating Just Fur Pets, we will cease daycare operations on July 29, boarding operations on August 1, and grooming and retail operations on August 12.
 
Some notes…
Boarding:
Unused boarding deposits will be refunded before July 31.
I encourage you to contact Old Mill Boarding Kennel in Leesburg for overnight needs (703.777.4183). I’ve used this business for my own dogs, and I trust them. 
Dog Daycare:
Unused package credits will be refunded between July 29 and Aug 3.
When seeking a new daycare facility, ask questions:
What is the staff to dog ratio? (should be 1 to 15)
Are dogs allowed to chase and wrestle? Do you play with tennis balls and bubbles? (If not, this means the dogs in the room may be likely to get into scuffles, arguments and fights, so the dogs may only walk around and lay down during their visit)
What do the daycare staff do with the dogs? (games, activities, obedience practice?)
What topics are the staff trained in and how many hours of training do they receive?
Retail:
·         Unused store credits will be refunded between Aug 13-16.
·         Retail store and DIY tubs will be open 10am-2pm Aug 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12.
·         After Aug 13, please visit our friend Matt and his knowledgeable staff at Felix and Oscar in central Springfield for food, treats, supplies and toys. You’ll find they carry the same brands we do.
 
Thank you for bringing your dogs to Just Fur Pets for daytime fun, overnight stays, beautification, and for letting us help you become better pet parents.  I’ve met many of you and have enjoyed our conversations, and have enjoyed spending time with your dogs.  Thank you.

Training Tip:  What is DogTV? 
DogTV is television programming for dogs.  It offers entertainment, soothing music and calming videos, images of dogs playing and engaging, and opportunities for dogs to engage with what’s on the screen.  

The content is designed for dogs’ vision; much of the visual content is colored for dogs’ visual abilities – lots of magentas and blues.  And dogs can see the images on today’s screens.  (Before TV went digital, dogs could actually see the analog video frames flipping by on the screen – not much entertainment there, huh?)
 
DogTV does not replace engagement with people or other dogs, but if your dog is bored of listening to soft jazz, DogTV may be a way to engage her mind while you’re away for a while.

We have new treats for dogs from ! Cookies are human-grade and decorated like watermelon slices, tennis balls, squirrels and dog paws. Also new are their sandwich cookies, peanut butter cups, and two flavors of peanut butter cannolis. Dogs are drooling already!!
