This a BEAUTIFUL & EXQUISITE hand painted picture I was gifted of one of my kittens last week! I cannot even begin to explain what it meant to me!! It still makes me teary eyed looking at it!
Backstory: this kitten Geraldine was born with her brother, Georgie, via emergency c-section. Mom, Fatima, unfortunately had a kitten stuck sideways. I decided even though mom could have had a few more litters before retirement that she had done her part, been through enough and deserved early retirement so I had her spayed.
Mom, was the only kitten I had ever kept that I bred in my cattery, So she is special to me.
Mom did not raise these babies and I don’t blame her, who wants kittens pushing, kneading, and head butting you where you just had surgery, so I hand raised these two from day one. Up every 2 hours feeding & pottying them and then even sleeping with them when they didn’t seem to be thriving very well. They gave me more than a few gray hairs those first 3-4 weeks. But they ended up doing exceptionally well, thriving, and found wonderful homes! But I was really close to these little scamps so them leaving was hard on me.
First Georgie went home and I felt like I was loosing one of my own kids! It hurt my heart bad but I was consoled knowing he had such a great home.
Geraldine was supposed to be going home on a Thursday and her leaving was already hitting me hard when it also hit me this was the last time I would ever be holding a Fatima kitten. This made me especially sad to the point of making me a crying blubbering mess. I happen to mention this to Geraldine’s new mom on Wednesday, when we were touching base, the feelings I was going through that day. Geraldine was in tune to these feeling and stayed velcroed to me the entire day, it’s as though she knew what I was going through.
Thursday when we met she presented me with this beautiful 😻 portrait of Geraldine that Geraldine’s new mom’s dad, a gentleman 87 years young had painted for me!!
How did he know I was going to need something like this? Im awe struck!!
I will forever be grateful for the magnificent piece of art I get to keep and remember these siblings by. I cannot thank Geraldine’s new mom and her dad enough for being so thoughtful and gracious!
