⭐️ Showmanship Day ⭐️

We has a great showmanship clinic this morning provided by Karla Moffitts! Lots of tools to put in our toolkit and homework to work on. Lyra was really great to take any corrections and work on moving her shoulder around better. Lots of stuff to practice now in the last 26 days we have. ⭐️

Thank you Hannah Niggli/Wild One Mustangs- Hannah Austin-Niggli TAOM’s 2025 for coming to visit and taking photos! I was great to see you! 🩷⭐️

⭐️ Adventures with Lyra ⭐️

Yesterday was a big day! I got the go ahead to bring Lyra with me to work as we were having a vet day for a couple horses. She has been needing her float done to really check that broken tooth and make sure there was nothing goofy going on back in the back of her mouth. ⭐️

She hauled in great, dealt with the new experienced great, and had her vitals all done like a really great citizen! Sedation was no problem and for as big as she is, didn’t take any extra medication. Overall her mouth looked pretty great! She did have wolf teeth but my vet commented how they were perfectly placed unlike most horses, whose wolf teeth migrate and that’s where they begin to interfere with the bit. We decided to remove them anyway, just for everyone’s benefit. With that we updated her tetanus shot and now she’s two teeth lighter. ⭐️

She got to meet new people, mini horses and play with all the weird extra stuff we have at Jasper for our horses there like our giant ball. She wasn’t totally sold on the ball, but also wasn’t really bothered by it and it hung out with her in her outside pen all day. ⭐️

She was really a stellar girl for everything and confidently I’d say now we have no more stranger danger 😂 She also had no issues being completely surrounded by people meeting her and loving on her. When everything was said and done at the end of my work day she hopped right back into the trailer to head home. I decided not to work her much, other than the little tiny bit of lunging and trail stuff I did at work, just to give her a break after a mentally busy day and the vet work. ⭐️

⭐️ I can’t believe our time is almost over, I’m starting to really feel it and be a little sad about it. This mare is so awesome, and I just keep my fingers crossed she finds the most perfect person for her at the sale. This is someone’s heart horse. ⭐️

⭐️ Lyra Brag Post! 🤩🤩⭐️

I took this big beautiful girl with Michelle Keeney and her challenge horse Tate up to see the Fisher’s yearly trail course with all the spooky items yesterday. It was about a two hour haul from my place to grab Michelle and Tate and then head up north. By far the longest trailer ride she has been on locked into a divider and probably her longest and windiest ride overall since she came from Burns to St.Paul for pick up and she hauled like an absolute SAINT 😍⭐️

I tried really hard not to go with many expectations. It was a long haul, new stuff, first time hauling with another horse locked into with her and Cynthia has goats and emus and all sorts of interesting things made to really show you what kind of horse you brought and are handling ⭐️

When I tell you - there is not one single thing Lyra refused to do, I couldn’t be more honest. I believe she had over 50 obstacles and this mare did every single one without a fit, without being flighty, without a challenge - she was absolutely wonderful. Every time she was unsure of something she would stop and check it out, with a little reassurance every single time she tried every obstacle. A few of them scarier than others so they took a few times attempting them to get any wiggles out (like being touched all over with pool noodles in harlittle noodle finger walk through) but she did them so so sensibly and with no drama! She even walked through a kiddie pool of screaming/squeaking rubber chickens!⭐️

I was spending most of my time making sure I was confidently and quietly handling her, which can be difficult with my phone so I don’t have a ton of photo or video but I will be posting what I do have and the photos from the video will have to be separate to post. ⭐️

This big girl yesterday was just absolutely BRILLIANT in the way she handled things. She started as a horse that in the beginning if something was scary, she would have been blowing backwards, snorting and running/dragging you to the next county. To see her confidently try new things well outside her comfort zone just made me incredibly proud for her and so excited for her future in general. What a good girl! 🩷⭐️

⭐️ We are getting so so close to her first sit 😭. Pray for my pants y’all. I can feel I’m gonna rip at least one pair in this process 😅 She’s tall enough I have to pick my foot up by hand and put it in the stirrup to make it up there - I’m not very bendy anymore. So proud of all the things she has been handling lately 🫣⭐️

⭐️ Official Adoption Post ⭐️

SS Written in the Stars ✨ “Lyra”
HMA : South Steens
Age : 4
Height : 16h
Available : Yes - through Hibid auction, link coming soon - approximately the first week of August.

Lyra is part of the Teens And Oregon Mustangs Challenge for 2025 and is coming along great! She will be looking for a bidder/adopter at the end of August at the completion of competition. She has been doing extensive groundwork, has been hauled out to new places and is working toward being started under saddle. She is big and a beautiful mover and would excel at sport horse, working equitation or ranch - but would really excel anywhere you’d like to take her. This mare is SO kind. She’s patient and quiet and has so much try even when things are scary or new. If you want a mare who loves attention and actually wants to be around you - this is your girl 🩷 I will continue on working to get her broke to ride up until competition.

⭐️ I have to admit, I haven’t been doing comparison photos at all. I normally love to see how they change and bloom but I’ve felt like it was a big struggle to get weight on Lyra and her looking the way I know she can. She’s a slow eater, I think the move from the corrals stressed her and she dropped a bunch of weight. I finally made some last night, just so I could really see where we are at and wow, I think I’ve been a little barn blind to her ✨glow up✨🙈. This girl is looking so much better than I realized ⭐️

⭐️ Big Lyra Update! ⭐️

Miss Lyra has had lots of new stuff going on in the last week or two! We have hauled out twice with another outing this week. ⭐️

We went to roping practice to watch them break in calves and stood in the line closest to the box. Horses leaving at full speed and the baby jerseys running past her was no problem. She was super brave and stood on a loose lead while we watched. She hauled great all the way there and unloaded really well. ⭐️

The week prior, we hauled over to a friend’s barn River Rock Ranch and snooped around their big arena with all their different stuff and wall banners. We walked through the big aisle ways with all sorts of stuff and new horses and she was unbothered with people practicing some gaming events. She was really curious of their mounted fans blowing in the arena and liked the wind in her hair 😅 We even met some goats! She thought they were a little strange at first but curiosity got her and they were quickly all friendly. ⭐️

We got some PEMF again, and started a little intro to ground driving and then yesterday we participated in a Scott DePaulo clinic I hosted at our place for the Teens competitors. I am terrible and didn’t take any photos or anything. I had to work so I missed a bit of it, but while we waited for our turn she was well behaved and quiet. It was great for her to have the time being around other horses quietly and learn to be patient. It was a really great afternoon with some really good takeaway information! ⭐️

Only 38 days left 😭⭐️

⭐️ Look at this girl! We practiced staying joined up for fun and worked on a little showmanship out in the big arena. Nothing super technical but - what a good girl! My arena is massive and she stuck right with me 🩷🩷⭐️
