Ohio weather tip: before your dog comes back inside from rain or muddy yards, take a moment to thoroughly dry their feet. Wet paws on slick floors can quickly turn into slip hazards, especially in older dogs or dogs recovering from surgery. Seniors often have slower reflexes and less joint stability, and post-op pups are still rebuilding strength and coordination—so even a small slip can set them back.

A quick towel dry helps improve traction, supports safer movement on hardwood or tile, and keeps those indoor rehab steps much more controlled and confident

To help with traction indoors, set up safe “movement zones” using:
🐾 muddy mats at entryways to catch water and debris before it hits your floors
🐾 rubber-backed rugs or runners that stay put during movement
🐾 yoga mats in high-traffic or rehab areas for controlled footing
🐾 non-slip carpet tiles or grippy area rugs for stability on hardwood/tile

Trina may not have been the biggest fan of the water at first, but this sweet girl conquered her fears and absolutely rocked the underwater treadmill!

At 15 years old, Trina came to rehab with luxating patellas and osteoarthritis, and she has worked so hard throughout her journey. Since starting therapy, she has gained muscle, improved her strength, and is moving around with so much more confidence and comfort. Watching her confidence grow each session has been such a joy!

We are so proud of this sweet senior girl and everything she accomplished. 🩵 Please help us congratulate Trina on graduating rehab!

Many double-coated dogs should be regularly de-shedded rather than shaved.

Breeds like Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, and Pomeranians have a double coat made up of:
• A soft insulating undercoat
• A protective outer coat

This coat works like natural climate control throughout the year

Shaving a double-coated dog can sometimes:
• Affect how the coat grows back
• Lead to patchy or uneven regrowth
• Reduce protection from heat, cold, and sun exposure
• Increase the risk of skin irritation

Instead of shaving, routine brushing and professional de-shedding help remove loose undercoat, improve airflow, reduce shedding, and keep the coat healthy and comfortable

Every dog is different, and there are some medical situations where shaving may still be necessary. When in doubt, talk with your groomer or veterinarian about what’s best for your pup’s coat type

Poe, an 11-year-old pit bull mix, came to us with a history of bilateral cranial cruciate ligament injuries and surgical repairs. He previously underwent a right CCL repair in December 2021 using a lateral suture technique, and more recently had the same procedure performed on the left on March 9th of this year.

At home, Poe is a certified couch potato with elite-level lounging skills, but when food is involved, he transforms into a very enthusiastic participant. Green beans and cheese plates quickly became his favorite motivators.

Throughout his rehabilitation journey, Poe made steady and meaningful progress in strength, mobility, and comfort using his hind limb. His movement improved week by week, and he is now walking with much better function and ease.

Poe has officially graduated from rehabilitation today! He’s heading home stronger, more comfortable, and ready to return to his favorite full-time job: professional couch occupation, with bonus snack supervision. We are so proud of his progress and excited for him to continue thriving at home.

Turn therapy into a treat party! Using healthy, low-calorie snacks like green beans or small bits of cheese can make exercises more exciting and rewarding for your pup. A little motivation goes a long way! Especially for our food-loving friends!
