Late summer is hard on horse hooves. Dry ground, hot days, no rain to speak of. Hooves crack, chip, and go dull.

A few things to keep them healthy through fall:
- Clean hooves daily. Pick out packed dirt and debris, check the frog for thrush.
- Thrush treatment goes on at the first sign of soft, black, funky-smelling frog. We stock a full shelf, brush-on, spray, and pour-on options for every barn preference.
- Apply a hoof conditioner 2 or 3 times a week on the coronary band. Coconut oil works in a pinch.
- Keep water troughs full. Hydration shows up in hoof quality faster than most people think.
- Feed a biotin supplement if you notice slow growth or brittle walls. 20mg per day for 6 months makes a visible difference.
- Schedule your farrier every 6 to 8 weeks. Overgrown hooves crack faster.
