💔🐾 This month has shown us the very best and the very worst of rescue — and we need your help now more than ever.

Our goal is to raise $5,000, and every dollar makes a difference.

This month alone…

❤️ We saved Chip.
Chip was rescued from unthinkable abuse after his owner beat him with a baseball bat. He is safe now, healing, and receiving the medical care he desperately needed — including his neuter and vetting. Despite everything, he remains a sweet, happy boy.

💔 We fought for Homer.
We pulled Homer as fast as we could, but the severe neglect he endured before reaching us was too much for his body to overcome. Losing him shattered us. No dog should ever suffer alone. We pulled him so he would at least leave this world loved.

💸 We received our monthly bill from ONE vet — over $15,000.
This is just one clinic. Our medical dogs, trauma cases, seniors, and emergency intakes rely on us every single day. We say “yes” when others say “too hard.” But we can’t do it without support.

✨ And we experienced joy too.
Some of our long-time residents finally found their forever homes — a reminder of why we keep fighting, even on the hardest days.

🐶❤️ This is rescue.

It’s heartbreak and hope, loss and love, tragedy and triumph — all happening at once. And it is only possible because of people like you.

💔 Remembering Sweet Homer

Friday, we welcomed a 10-month-old puppy named Homer into our care—hoping we could turn his story around. He arrived extremely pale, with a hematocrit of just 18%, a high-grade heart murmur, and legs that simply couldn’t support him.

After exams, full labwork, and X-rays of his front legs, back legs, and abdomen, our fears were confirmed. Homer had fractures in both back legs—including his femur, tibia, and a fractured femoral head (his hip). His labs pointed toward nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism, meaning his bones were so weakened they could no longer hold him up.

We discussed Homer’s case extensively during medical rounds with four veterinarians. Every specialist agreed:
🔸 He was not a candidate for surgery now
🔸 His bones were so brittle and demineralized that even if one side were repaired, the opposite leg would not be able to support him, risking new fractures and leaving him in even greater pain
🔸 Keeping him alive would mean a lifetime of severe, chronic, unrelenting suffering

Our hearts sank under the weight of that reality.

We rescued Homer with the intention of fighting for him—but sometimes, the kindest, most loving choice is also the hardest. We held him, loved him, and helped him cross the Rainbow Bridge peacefully. His short life mattered, and he did not leave this world alone.

💔 Our hearts are shattered, but we could not let him suffer.
💔 Homer deserved dignity, comfort, and release.

To everyone who donated toward his care: thank you. Because of your generosity, we were able to give Homer the humane ending he deserved, and with your blessing, we would like to honor his memory by putting the remaining funds toward other urgent medical cases. (One of our November vet bills alone was over $15,000.)

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Hannah McCleary 🌟

We are beyond grateful for Hannah. She has an incredible gift for understanding our dogs’ needs and noticing the subtle behaviors many people might miss. Despite being a busy business owner, Hannah still finds time to volunteer as a foster, assist with transports, and—most recently—help with adoption screenings.

Having Hannah on our team has made an immeasurable impact. Her love for dogs is absolutely contagious and reminds us how important it is to advocate for these deserving souls every single day.

When we asked Hannah what her favorite part of rescue is, she shared that it’s making connections and seeing the successful side of rescue—the moments when everything comes together and a dog gets the future they deserve.
