JUST in case you think we ONLY adore the physically perfect specimens like dear P***ephone, from yesterday . . . here's a brand new pic of our veterinary assistant Molly's dog, Sullivan.

You know we're just having fun right? Sullivan is also actually a beautiful doggo (everybody has a bad photo here and there) and what is ESPECIALLY lovely about him is his backstory.

Molly and her husband Erik traveled to O'Hare airport a year and a half ago to pick up this dear boi after his lengthy trip to his new home from Harbin Animal Rescue in . . . China.

His future was bleak, but now . . . he is one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs we know.

During this season of gratitude, if you have a bit extra, perhaps you would consider donating to a pet charity. There are many to choose from in this world, and here at home.

HHFA is putting together plans for its annual holiday giving opportunities to benefit local pet charities.

Stay tuned.

And, Sully, YOU stay photogenic. We love you.

Introducing the newest HHFA greeter . . . P***ephone.

And, yes, she has all of the qualities of a Greek goddess; beauty strength and (especially) talent.

She joined the staff along with veterinary nurse Jocelyn a few months ago and -- just like her mother -- is fitting in seamlessly.

Fun fact about dear P***e: At four years old, she has competed in agility as well as AKC CAT (Course Ability Test) and also AKC FastCAT (a timed 100-yard dash ).

Earlier this year she ranked as the fifth FASTEST collie in FastCAT in the AKC.

She hasn't let all that go to her head, though.

"She loves every creature: dog, cat, human, she has ever met," Jocelyn says.

Drop in and see for yourself. You'll not only be greeted but snuggled by this beautiful girl.

We're so glad she joined our team. And, REALLY glad she brought her equally talented mom along, as well.

UPCOMING HOLIDAY HOURS AND EVENTS

HHFA will be closed on Saturday, November 22 and Thursday November 27 so our staff can celebrate their Thanksgiving holiday events with their families.

But then stay tuned for MORE news about our Black Friday and Small Business Saturday events, November 28 and 29.

And, as we head into this busy season, please know how grateful we are to our wonderful staff for their kindness, diligence and hard work and to YOU, for all the love you bestow to create wonderful lives for pets.

Just a bit over two weeks 'til our big Shop Local Swag Bag gifts are ready for you.

Scads of local small businesses are donating little gifts, discounts, coupons and more to fill our bags and you can stop in as you head out on Black Friday or Small Business Saturday to pick up yours.

Local business owners representing personal care (facials, fitness, food) pet supplies, books and reading, restaurants and more are taking part to encourage YOU to shop in OUR beautiful community this holiday season.

We will have refreshments and photo ops for your kids and pets with HHFA mascot Harry, as well:)

Stay tuned and mark your calendars. And please plan to shop local.

Perhaps you've been lucky enough in the last four years to visit HHFA and be welcomed by "Uncle."

You'd know him by his dear, prancing walk and his funny, wry little grin.

Uncle was first known as Ollie or Oliver when he was the caretaker of our sweet staff member Harley's grandmother. After her passing, Harley took him into her home and brought him into our hearts.

He was, of course, her "Uncle," and the name stuck.

He did have a bit of a past -- a small criminal record -- after the Great French Fry Incident a while back. His mug shot is included here.

So with all of that, you will understand the palpable grief we feel at his passing a few days ago.

We still miss trying not to trip over him as he waddles around the clinic and we will be looking for him under the lunch table for a long, long time.

Godspeed dear Unc. We will miss you forever and ever. How glad we are we knew you.

Hey HHFA friends:

Stop in on Nov. 28 and 29 -- Black Friday AND Small Business Saturday -- to pick up your free Swag Grab Bag filled with incredible little gifts and coupons and treats from a TON of local small businesses.

More information to come, but you don't need an appointment to pick up your gift (while they last) and we will have treats and refreshments for you AND your furry friends.

We are open from 9-5 on Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) and 9-Noon on Saturday.

(P.S. We've heard there may be a surprise appearance by Harry Harborfront, for photo ops;)

There's always that ONE sibling, yes?

But in this family of origin, it seems like there are THREE.

These cuties were all part of the original "Pickles," family. Taken in as infants by Heaven Can Wait and fostered during the summer of 2024 by great HHFA friends Becky and Donovan, Patch and Stitch (renamed from Phil and Lil by their adoptive mother Bonnie, who is an incredible seamstress) have developed into quite the characters.

They have nothing, of course on their brother Tommy who now works as an HHFA greeter.

During this season of gratitude we hope you will adopt and not shop -- and then we hope you enjoy a whole bunch of shenanigans with your new buddies.

Happy National Black Cat Day!

Many visitors to our office have met and fell in love with our resident black feline friend, CJ. Recently, many have wondered why CJ was not found in his normal sleeping spots in the front office or greeting patients at the front door.

After beginning on a new weight loss food and regime, it became clear to us that CJ may be happier in a quieter home environment. Our sweet receptionist Michelle has loved CJ since the moment they met and they have had a special bond. Michelle and her husband agreed to take CJ home on a "trial basis" but it quickly became clear that he was meant to stay.

CJ is doing wonderfully in his new home. He enjoys spending his days watching out the window, hanging out with his new doggie brother and snuggling on the couch with mom and dad. He has a whole new wardrobe, cat trees and toys galore. He's even made great progress in his weight loss.

We miss seeing his sweet face everyday but know he is in the best possible place.

Fun fact: Michelle's husband, Kyle, says that CJ now stands for "Cyle (with a C) Jr. ☺️

At HHFA we celebrated our Veterinary Technicians last week with fun activities, games and gifts every day.

Staff members took part in a week-long scavenger hunt, locating little gifts (candy, lottery tickets) in supremely odd places (we're not sure HOW they retrieved those treats from the air conditioning vents. OR how they were placed. PLEASE don't tell us. Or OSHA.)

They played a fun Bingo game called "Say Uncle," in honor of our most senior staff pet "Uncle Oliver," the adorable dachshund you see in the first photo and they were treated to a catered luncheon on Tuesday.

Every staff member also received a hysterically funny, framed caricature of one of their beloved pets (these are just a few).

IMMENSE thanks to the HHFA HHFA Special Projects Coordinator Molly, who spent literally hours outside of work planning all the fun.

We have an incredible team and it's wonderful to honor them.
