Why Do We Work on Eye Contact? 👀🐩

Eye contact is about much more than teaching a puppy to simply look at us. It helps build focus, engagement, communication, and attention to the handler.

In this video, you can see something especially interesting: the puppy alternates his gaze between my partner, who was standing to his left, and me, looking to both of us and waiting for a response or direction.

This type of voluntary “check-in” is exactly what we want to encourage. The puppy is learning that when he needs information, he can look to his person, observe, and wait for communication rather than immediately acting on his own.

For puppies raised with working or service potential, this type of handler engagement can become a valuable foundation for future training.

✨ Working on eye contact can help develop:
• Focus around distractions
• Attention to the handler
• Communication
• Impulse control
• Engagement and willingness to work
• A strong foundation for future skills

At this age, we are not expecting advanced tasks. We are building small skills and behaviors that, with consistency and continued training, can become valuable tools as the puppy develops.

Before we teach the task, we build the communication.

🐾 Veterinary physical exam, including cardiac, eyes, lymph nodes, and internal & external parasite checks

Tiny paws, big personality already. 🤎🤍

At this stage, our puppies are beginning to discover the world around them while we continue building a strong foundation through gentle handling, early neurological stimulation, and age-appropriate experiences. Every little experience matters. 🐾

Watching them grow, change, and begin to develop their own unique personalities is one of my favorite parts of raising a litter. 🥹

Athena Enza is looking for her new forever home. ❤️
Unfortunately, due to changes in her current family’s circumstances, they are no longer able to keep her, so she will be returning to us.

Athena is a very sweet, affectionate girl who loves being close to her people. She is potty trained and crate trained and has experience living in a family environment.

She does have some ongoing care needs that I’m happy to discuss privately with seriously interested families. My priority is simply finding her the right home where she will be loved and cared for.

🐾 Rugrats Litter Update! 💕

Our little Rugrats are growing so fast! 🥹 We’ve already completed some of their important early-development milestones, including ENS, ESI, daily handling, and weight monitoring.

Now we’re moving into Weeks 3–4, which means their little world is about to get much bigger! 🐾 We’ll begin introducing weaning, potty-area foundations, different surfaces, and new safe objects and toys.

Every experience is introduced little by little, helping them build confidence and a strong foundation from the very beginning. ❤️

So proud of our little Rugrats! 🥰🐾
