We normally don't do horse shows in Texas this close to summer. ☀️ But with the gentle persuasion of my dear friend, Vicki Cooper Nourse, 😜and in anticipation of making new friends, giving my hunky stallion more show experience, and having a little fun, we loaded up and headed to Tyler, Texas last week for the Texas Rose Breed Show.
First, I must complain... 😆
My amazing husband, Gerrit (pictured below, sitting in the grass with Stallone), and my Gypsy Vanner stallion, Stallone, were clearly the crowd favorites. And there I was needing to retroduce myself to people, while they asked if I brought Stallone (and husband)...
On a more serious note, I am incredibly grateful for Gerrit's hard work, support, patience, and willingness to do whatever is needed. I truly could not have done this without him. ❤️
And Stallone... wow.
As of June 25th, Stallone is now 12 years old. When he arrived at our farm just two years ago, he had never been ridden. I was trotting him ba****ck around the round pen by day two. One year ago, Connor Gartner began his formal training. To see the horse he has become today absolutely blows me away. His work ethic, willingness, athleticism, and showmanship continue to amaze me, and I could not be more proud of him.
A special thank you to Cliff Swanson for naming Stallone the Supreme Champion Halter Horse. We were absolutely beaming with pride. 🏆
And to all of our lope/canter friends—we missed you! I know the Texas heat kept some folks home, but it was well worth the trip. At this point, I'm planning to be back in August and hopefully make a couple of stops in Oklahoma before Nationals. I hope to see you there! ❤️🐴
