Fresh foods are one of the best ways to support your parrot’s long-term health and happiness. 🦜

While a quality pellet diet provides an important nutritional foundation, adding a variety of fresh, nutrient-dense foods can help provide enrichment, hydration, vitamins, minerals, and natural foraging opportunities.

Great fresh food options include:
🥬 Dark leafy greens like kale, romaine, and Swiss chard
🥕 Colorful vegetables such as carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, and squash
🍓 Fresh fruits in moderation like berries, papaya, mango, and apples
🌱 Sprouted seeds and legumes for added nutrition
🌶️ Bird-safe herbs including cilantro, parsley, and basil

Variety matters! Offering different textures, colors, and flavors keeps mealtime exciting while encouraging healthy eating habits.

If raw ingredients are not something you regularly keep on hand or have ample time to prepare, there are easy solutions to make sure your bird gets all they need. In-store, we carry Bird Street Bistro and Higgins Worldly Cuisine that makes prep for these guys take mere minutes!

A few important reminders:
❌ Avoid avocado, chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, onion, and high-salt processed foods
💧 Always provide fresh clean water daily
🧼 Wash all produce thoroughly before serving

Small daily additions of fresh foods can make a big difference in your parrot’s overall wellness, feather quality, energy, and mental stimulation.

Each Monday, we will kick off our week with what will be known as "Marrow Monday." Core knowledge (the "marrow"), tips and facts for making sure your bird is the happiest and healthiest possible.

This "Marrow Monday" knowledge nugget has to do with bathing! Did you know that regular bathing is essential to your bird's overall wellness? Not only does bathing help shed feather casings and keep their skin from drying out, but the overall benefits of going for a dip 3-4 times a week also impacts their mental health, as it's a great enrichment activity.

Alternatives to having a shallow bowl in their cage are methods like spritzing them with water, bathing in the sink or joining their owners in the shower on a perch.

Here, Finn and Charlie both enjoyed one of our motorized, tabletop baths and we have stocked some bath inventory if you're itching to try one out with your bird!

We recently acquired a Hahn's Macaw, surrendered from Montana. She's such a "good girl", is "so cute" and loves to chat. Harley shopped and talked the ears off of a customer yesterday. Come in and meet this lady.
